Who has done so poorly in our pen that necessitates Buttrey replacing them?

As of right now, these guys are not on the 25 man roster:

DL

ERod

Wright

Walden

AAA

Pom

Scott

Beeks

Haaley

Cuevas

Jerez

Buttrey

Shepherd

Martin

40 games last year as a Reliever, both in Portland and Pawtucket, Buttrey had a 4.81 era. This year its 2.25. Is it the Opposition, or new pitch? Too much of a discrepancy for me to think he's the next Kimbrel.

September call up for me, and see how he does.

For me at least, for 9th inning Closers I want to see total domination in Triple AAA, in that role. Buttrey is improving, I guess, but needs more seasoning, before you take on a role like Kimbrel.

Who dominates Major Leaguers.

The biggest thing about Buttrey was him cutting his walk rate in half. Knowing that he's going to throw strikes, hitters just can't sit back and wait for him to shoot himself in the foot.

Houck Pitching now against the best hitting team in the Carolina League, Potomac. Big start. Edited by OH FOY!
Posted (edited)

Houck pitched a beauty today. Only run he gave up was because of throwing error on his part. Got stronger as game went on. Game still on Salem leads 3-1 at this point.

Houck's final stats today 6 innings, 4 hits, 0 earned runs, ZERO WALKS, 8 K's.

This was a good hitting team he faced. He's trending in right Direction. 2 Quality starts in a row against 2 good teams. ERA down to 4.50

Sox Prospects don't like that he's gone back to mainly using his 2 seamer as the believe it's not a starter's profile. We'll have to see how it goes!

Haven't followed Sox Prospects in years. Perfect Game projected him as a Starter like that site better my preference. Box score.

Soxprospects has turned into a shithole. I only go to Soxprospects to read Eric's thoughts. True, he gets things wrong (don't we all) but it is kind of interesting to read the perspective of someone who actually worked in the Red Sox front office. BTW, Eric does not want the Red Sox to pursue a SP at the trade deadline.

The founder of soxprospects, Mike Andrews, is a real scumbag. The only time he posts on the site is when he asks members for donations to help pay for his vacations. I rely on MLB Pipeline to learn about prospects.

I can understand why Eric left SOSH. Someone should invite him to this forum, the best Red Sox forum on the internet!

When a Pitcher gets stronger as the game goes on, don't matter what 2 Pitches he throws. That's starter material. What idiot in the Sox organization played around with a kid, at this point in his career. Just Drafted last year and lets change his style. Idiots.

Mike has always responded to my inquiries with detailed and informative answers.

I haven't really noticed a drop off in quality, but to each his own.

(There is a lot of helpful information on the site.)

It costs to send people to the games to scout and to run a website... Asking for a donation does not make someone a scumbag.

Almost all draft picks are played around with when they first start working out with a team. Trying to get a pitcher to adjust his arm slot and develop a 4 seam fastball isn't really anything out of the ordinary.

It is one thing to ask for donations to help pay for the cost of a website (which isn't overly expensive) it is another thing to ask for donations under the guise of "scouting players," which is really nothing more than a paid vacation. Mike Andrews also lies to soxprospects forum members about this matter and the amount of donations coming in. I know about this because I know an ex-forum member who knew about these things.

Andrews also lies each year when he threatens to make soxprospects a paid site if he doesn't receive sufficient donations. In reality, he has no intention to do this. He knows that he can't do this--no one is going to pay money to soxprospects on a monthly basis (a subscription) when they can get information on Red Sox prospects for free on other sites.

But as Nietzsche pointed out, to each his own. If you like the guy, good for you. I think he is a pimp.

Shawaryn threw a really nice game today. 7 innings no runs. Secondary stuff looked really good. Might be time to move him to Pawtucket,

Northcutt with his first professional tater today. Should be interesting to see how he develops.

Trey Ball, a talented two-way player in high school who Red Sox drafted in first round as a pitcher a few years ago, is taking BP in Double-A Portland right now. Has had limited success on mound as a pro.

When people ask for donations and I can't or don't want to contribute, I ignore them.

Seems like an odd thing to have a vendetta over.

But they actually go and scout the players that we can't see and do a really good job? It's not like other Sox scouts are putting out a free website talking about arm slot, loft, etc. We rely solely on stats to tell us how a prospect is doing. Their scouting goes above and beyond that since they see the players in person AND utilize advanced stats.

If he needs to make the website a paid site, it would be in his right to do it. AND PEOPLE DO CONTRIBUTE MONTHLY TO THEIR PATREON WHICH SUPPORTS THEIR PODCAST. There was a person I was donating to on Patreon who ended up dropping his podcast because it was too time consuming and there weren't enough funds coming in. You realize people need to make money off the product they make right?

It's just crazy that people don't appreciate all the hard work that goes into that sight. To complain about an ask for money is pretty ridiculous.

Probably waited too long for this -- people were calling for it a few years ago.

Yeah but they aren't professional scouts. They are amateurs who watch a ballgame like a fan does. The only difference is that they write up amateur scouting reports--the fan doesn't.

I also don't understand why SOSH asks for money. There are plenty of free forums on the internet, why should members pay? What benefit does SOSH provide? Likewise, you can get all the info on soxprospects elsewhere.

Perfect Game is a Scout site. I pay, its information on World Wide Prospects, is unreal. Its run by Professional Scouts, probably because they need the money. Those guys get paid crap.

They are trained scouts. They may be amateurs, but they are far more knowledgeable than any of us on here.

As far as I know, the guys on soxprospects aren't trained professional scouts--they are fans on an internet board, just like us here. They call themselves scouts but that doesn't mean they are real professional scouts. In contrast, I have heard that Perfect Game is run by real professional scouts. There is a football site too, a paid site, forgot the name now, that also has reports and articles from professional scouts.

By the way, MVP 78, I plan to take a trip to spring training in Florida next year to watch a few Red Sox youngsters. Would you donate to my trip? I'll even write up an amateur scouting report on what I see. By the way, I only fly first class. LOL. Make check payable to Fan_since_Boggs.

No, but I'd buy you a beer if I saw you there.
