It just does. Just when exactly is Matt Barnes going to stop beginning every single outing with a walk and a single that leads to run(s) scoring? You can set your clocks by it. As soon as he went 2-0 I literally sat here and said game over. You know exactly what's going to happen, and by the way Vasquez, Bogaerts and the coaches had to go out repeatedly to try to prop him up tonight, you know the worst is going down. And it's also a miracle if the Ex-Cardinal doesn't get scored on. 100 mph blazing heater that goes straigh in and does absolutely nothing. When he does manage to work his way out of Barnes' jam, he gives up his own runs in the next inning. I don't care what the ERA's are, the eyeball test says this bullpen is not going to hold up much longer, and is becoming a bigger joke every night. Who's going to take over? Scott? Hembree? Good luck to Carson Smith..... Edited by Examiner

I think we have the pieces but Farrell doesn't use them properly. Barnes and Hembree never ever should pitch in high leverage situations. I would use only Kimbrel, Reed, Kelly and even Abbad -- who is a mystery to me why Farrell doesn't use him more often.

I think he'd get exposed with more opportunities. Mediocre stuff.

It's also a mystery to me why certain players keep playing and playing.

Reed offers the only real hope beyond Kimbrel and Workman.

And here I thought I couldn't feel any worse about the situation.....Workman didn't retire a batter tonight....

Exactly. He was terrible most of the time he was here last season.

But hey guys, look at the bright side, rock star ace Fister is starting tomorrow night. We prob'ly won't even need the bullpen.....

I don't think it sucks, but it's definitely overrated and not as good as the numbers show. Agree with you there.

Bet you wouldn't have the guts to say that to his face.

And your point is? That I'm a bigger pussy? True, but I don't pitch for Red Sox.

So your baseball comp for Barnes is me? Oh goody.

No. I just have very little use for people who sit behind a keyboard acting as tough guys when they would absolutely wilt in the same situation (assuming one could transplant Barnes' right arm onto one's self).

A week or so ago, somebody posted that Barnes seems to have that Schiraldi look; I agree with that. Whatever "it" is, he doesn't seem to have it when it comes to being a front half of the bullpen guy. The thing is he'll look great for a couple weeks, and then all of a sudden look like crap.

One has to wonder with really giant guys in the BP, whether they have trouble with coordination. Certainly some of our guys can't find the plate and then are forced to throw fastballs down the center.

I think Smith is a couple of weeks away, he pitched good last night, in Pawtucket. Maybe call up so can use in Post-Season. Edited by OH FOY!

Tough guy? I have never acted tough. Pussy is simply a word, for me it's a great adjective to use on someone who I think is 'soft' or does not have 'mental toughness'.

I'm sure Barnes is a great guy. I'm describing his performance on the mound.

So if 'I would absolutely wilt in the same situation' then I'm not entitled to my opinion here? Wouldn't you say 99% of posters here would wilt playing major league competition? Yet you offer your opinion and my guess is that it's not always flattering.

I think Holt 'sucks'. It conveys my thought that he's not very good.I think 'sucks' captures the essence of what I'm trying to say.

Hey get over yourself. I love the word pussy. It conveys many things and I only have to type 5 letters.

Actually, our bullpen is pretty good. It is one of the top 3 in the league, behind maybe the Guardians and the Yankees. They have their implosions, as all pens do, but by and large, they've gotten the job done.

They may or may not hold up for the rest of the season, but so far, they have been very good.

It's truly sexist, though. Isn't it interesting how men use the words they insult women with on men who aren't male enough. These same men seem to be aware of racist terms and avoid them but blank out (and even "love" as in the p word used above) sexist terms.

Also, interesting how the blowing of one game can bring out such a lust of anger. It's fine to criticize, and show some spunk doing it, but this is over the top which is why another poster jumped on it.

I agree. I think what we might want to say is that, as with our starters, we really, at the moment, have only one truly dependable guy, and at times this is frustrating. But Reed is coming around--and has had about 6 no-runs-allowed outings which is great given the time he's been here, and all the adjustments that need be made.

Lower back strain. Velazquez recalled.

Looking forward to HV pitching down the stretch???

Perfect chance to bring up an infielder but instead back to 13 pitchers

Roster expansion comes September 1 and right now we have a long stretch with no days off so the extra pitcher probably makes sense.

I guess. Holt does have more positional versatility than Lin, but he hasn't played very well.

They really just need to win 2 games this series.

45 taught us that saying Pussy is completely acceptable. in fact, he taught our kids to grab women by their pussies because it is OK.

The bullpen woild certainly look a lot better if Smith and Thornburg weren't lemons. It might not be so bad if Barnes, Hembree, Kelly and Abad were all pushed back two slots.

Of course, why Farrell likes using Barnes and Hembree against the top and middle of the order while saving Kimbrel for the bottom will always mystify me...
