Panic move, imo. Once he hits .400 next year, they'll unretire #9 and give it to him. Then you'll have to buy a new jersey.

my username should let you know that i already have that jersey covered....

1st AB: first pitch groundout to 2b

2nd AB: K on high heat

3rd AB: K on off speed

4th AB: popout to third

Sox win this game though as you have to score some runs to get your 9 hitter up 4x.....

"We're in need here and we think he's ready," Dombrowski said. "We've talked at length. I've talked with John and the coaching staff. They're aware of, he's going to need continued development at the big league level. They're prepared to do it. He's in great hands with this staff. He has made some errors, but he's also made some good plays."

For all the naysayers on this board, read the first line.

"We're in need here....."....If he fails, so what? He's 20 years old. Think he'll quit and retire and go do something else? They are NOT like you and I. They are professional athletes. They face challenge every day. There's a guy on other side trying to make you do your job poorly.

Maybe a defensive replacement when appropriate?

DD seems to have gotten the blame from some posters here for the Tigers not winning the WS during his tenure there.

That part is silly.

1. It's baseball - having a great team guarantees nothing. The best team rarely wins. (by my count, maybe every 4 or 5 years)

2. He did what his owner wanted - sold out, made big moves.

3. Dombrowski built systems too in Montreal and Miami. If Henry wanted Dombrowski to think longer term, Dombrowski would.

Mell Ott was in his second full season when he hit. 328 with 42 HR! And, oh, yes; he had 152 RBIs

AT AGE 2-!

Go, Kid, GO!

I hope to succeeds but did notice in his picture on the Sox web site he appears to have a big chaw of tobacco in his check. My advice is break the habit now and avoid mouth cancer in the future.

With Devers up for a look and Nunez in the fold you have to wonder how look at the players on our 40 man roster. We have Rutledge (DL), Holt, Marerro and Lin. Nunez is probably only in for a couple of months and Devers is totally unproven so it would be risky to dump our backups but equally foolish to hang on to 4. Maybe we can offer one or more of these guys as part of a trade for BP help. I personally would keep Lin of that group and we do have Hernandez on the extended DL who is probably not tradeable at this point. Hernandez may be someone to make the grade next year.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but I think that while Henry's directive was to get the team back into the postseason immediately, it could have been done while still thinking longer term.

Yet where would we be without Sale, Pomeranz and Kimbrel right now?

Those guys have been key for us, no doubt. But it's hard to say, not knowing what might have been done instead. Maybe we're 5 games up in the division, maybe we're down by 5 games.

@PeteAbe

Farrell also did not commit to Devers being on the roster beyond today.

What the f*** is this s***? Seriously...

I don't think they want him sitting on the bench.

Unfortunately, Devers talked his family out of coming to Seattle to see his debut and told them to wait until the team returned to Boston. They may have to wait until September.

DEVERS WITH HIS FIRST HOME RUN.

Again, why the hell NOT. He can't do any worse than our other 3B offensively. I NEVER thought he was going to save our season from the 9th spot.

My ONLY argument was why not try him instead of giving up premium prospects for a rental.

With Moreland and Young slumping (among others), why not give Devers chance to hit DH and have both Nunez and Hanley in the lineup vs right hander?

This is another sign of weak intellect.

Why should anyone be surprised?

Johnny Neuron has spoken.

We're definitely getting close to pitchforks and torches time.

Why couldn't he simply say something like "We'll see how things go"?

It is my speculation the Red Sox simply want to talk to Nunez and whoever is getting demoted before announcing Devers is not getting demoted

This would make sense.

Xander hitting .150 in July. 9-60.....only one multiple hit game.

Devers has good swing.....he's a pure hitter. If you don't see it then we have nothing to talk about. (I'm speaking to the world).

He now has a 1.4 WAR on the year. If he keeps trending in this direction, he will soon be at replacement level.

Does anyone have a link to Devers' HR? I didn't see it.

I would promote Lin, activate Nunez, and demote Holt, place Bogaerts on the DL. (1) People are saying that Nunez should get some playing time at SS, but he is a poor defensive SS and I wouldn't want him there for a stretch of games. (2) I would promote Lin and play him at SS while Bogaerts is on the DL. (3) I could be wrong, but I think Holt has an option. I would like to see Holt hit in AAA before giving him major league at-bats. (3) Nunez essentially replaces Holt as the super-utility guy, plays just about every day, and bats leadoff, moving Betts to the middle of the order.

Your arguement has been the same as mine and others for quite a while. It was and is a common sense arguement.

You were absolutely right on the Devers call.
