Because of your rosy outlook, everything you read and hear will always sound good. To a pessimist, everything they read and hear will always sound bad.

For me, all I'm saying is it's too early to tell what will happen with Price. He hasn't thrown off the mound, pitched a simulated game, or thrown back to back starts without feeling discomfort. Until he actually pitches in a game, I'm not going to guess on how long he'll be out.

Spare me the "you're a pollyanna who sees everything through rose colored glasses but I'm a realist" argument. I am well aware that Price is not out of the woods and that he could very well suffer a set back. All I've said is that I'm optimistic about what I've heard and read so far.

I didn't say pollyanna or realist. I'm not Fred. I didn't disparage you. All I've said is that your optimism will always lead you to thinking that a positive result is likely. I didn't say that was a bad thing either.

Wonder where Old Fred is anyway?

MLBTR...

David Price told Red Sox reporters that he’s not 100 percent certain exactly what the injury he’s facing is, but in fairly strange fashion, noted that he’d have opted for surgery if he were 22 or 23 years old (via Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald). “They said if I was 22 or 23, they’d have told me to go have surgery,” said Price. “…I’ve gone through this. This is something I feel like happens every spring training. It’s those first four to five weeks of spring training that I feel like I go through this every single year, and this year was just a little bit worse.” Pressed on the specifics of the injury Price stated that he’s not sure what precisely set off the alarm bells for doctors but added that his elbow feels good and offered no concern regarding his ulnar collateral ligament. There’s no timeline for his recovery, though Drellich notes that it’s looking likely that Price will be on the DL to open the season.

He said that once he heard "no surgery" that his brain shut down and he doesn't know his injury. He's not a very reliable source atm.

Is he hiding something or just a dummy?

Price is far from being a dummy. You know that.

Is he being disingenuous? Who knows?

Farrell confirmed that Price will start season on DL.

This is no surprise.

I am optimistic that he could be back before the end of April. However, if the others are healthy and pitching well, there's really no reason to rush him back.

I think he probably knows more about his injury than he's letting on.

It would be nice if April, I would be happy with May.

I wouldn't rush him back no matter what.

If that's true, it's likely that it's worse than he is letting on, imo.

There's a certain amount of logic involved in ^that^. If he's not being candid about what he knows it's probably not because his situation is better than he's letting on. And those are the options.

They told him they'd operate if he was younger? He's got 6 years left on his deal. Also, I'm not sure of any adult surgical injury that magically changes based on 8 years of life

Unless you are 80 with a lot of medical problems, its either surgical or its not. I cannot imagine what the real diagnosis is if he would be a surgical candidate 8 years ago, but he is not one now. That said, so far so good from all the reports. We will see how he does when he actually gets on the mound in real games, if he makes it that far.

Or he just doesn't want to talk about it. ..

"You know, I just don't really want to talk about the great prognosis I received and how my arm will be just fine. I'd rather just say that I stopped listening and my mind went blank."

Seems reasonable.

He did talk about the good prognosis and how well his arm is feeling.

Is it possible that the doctors said they didn't need to operate because he more or less goes through this every year and his elbow uniquely 'heals' itself? But if this were his first time suffering the injury at 22 years old they would suggest surgery because they would assume that he would heal on his own?

Maybe from a medical standpoint that would never happen, but that's the way that I interpreted his statement.

I would not either, but I could certainly see the FO taking extra time with him if all is going well with the rest of the rotation that they might not take if the team is struggling due to poor starts by the pitchers.

That's possible, but not necessarily the case.

Still no updates from the team about a throwing regimen.

The silence is deafening.

He's playing catch they already said they are taking it slow with him. No need to rush.

If they're not careful, he'll end up needing surgery this summer and he'll be out until 2019.

I think he's going to have surgery this season no matter what.
