I thought Bard looked good, especially for a #4 starter. He essentially went up against the Jay's A line up. Luckily we don't have to count on him to be an ace, but if he can consistently throw like he has today, this team is going to win a lot of games.

Bard looks like what he is. A work in progress. Although this sixth inning may be too much at this point. He's a good, smart kid and is trying. He deserves a chance.

Definitely still a very encouraging outing. I like him in the 4th slot, but at the same time, if he gets moved to the pen and Cook takes the 4th slot, I'm not going to complain. That would make our bullpen pretty lights out.

I'm not sure whether he deserves it or we simply do not have another option at this point ( I think #2); either way, the pitching coaches have to help him a lot with his control and improve his repertory.

He did not step up like he needed to. If Aceves recovers from his last outing and puts up a solid outing, I think there is a good chance that 4 and 5 would be Doubront and Aceves with Bard in the pen. No one has stepped up and claimed either spot.

Well, I thought it was an encouraging outing. He's not going to have a 32% strand rate this year, and he's not going to have a .350 BABIP either.

 

Regardless, if he doesn't make it to the rotation, I'm not going to be upset, and if he does make it to the rotation, I won't be upset. I'll be happy with either case.

 

I would be completely fine with Cook starting out, getting about 8-10 starts in as the #5 starter, and then when DiceK returns around 6/1, letting him become our #5. I have a strong feeling that Valentine is going to let DiceK pitch DiceK's way, rather than trying to fit a square piece into a round circle like Francona was constantly trying to do.
