Well, I thought it was an encouraging outing. He's not going to have a 32% strand rate this year, and he's not going to have a .350 BABIP either.

Regardless, if he doesn't make it to the rotation, I'm not going to be upset, and if he does make it to the rotation, I won't be upset. I'll be happy with either case.

I would be completely fine with Cook starting out, getting about 8-10 starts in as the #5 starter, and then when DiceK returns around 6/1, letting him become our #5. I have a strong feeling that Valentine is going to let DiceK pitch DiceK's way, rather than trying to fit a square piece into a round circle like Francona was constantly trying to do.

I'll be going to the weekend series against the Nats in June. If Dice K makes a start before that, the drinks will be on me.

It was a slightly better outing for Bard than his last. Clearly does not have the presence, composure and mentality of a starter as yet. I would have been way more impressed if he had gotten the last out of the 6th without giving up the tying run.

Had the guy 1-2 and left the ball out over the plate for the bouncer to second which was an automatic run scoring from 3rd base with 1 out. Had he gotten that guy out without further damage and gotten out of that inning he would have gone 6 innings, with 5 K's leaving his team with a 1 run lead. That is the kind of thing starters do. Frankly of the guys vying, Doubront and Cook have been the only guys with the presence to pitch that way. Aceves had out-pitched everybody vying up to his last outing but even Aceves has not pitched with that sort of presence as a starter. While winning and losing games is not significant to me in ST, balls, strikes, location and pitching in and out of situations can be important factors.

While only once did Bard walk somebody with no outs in an inning once again, every guy walked scored as did the one hit batsman. The walks are killers. I would still like to see Bard get the 5 spot at this point and see Aceves go to the pen. Wish we could see more of Cook but I think he is going to run out of time unfortunately. I think he pitches on Monday. We shall see.

WTF??? Did you have oral surgery or something equally undesirable?

I'll send you some filling Fed-Ex!

Other end, and yes quite undesirable. I had to have surgery on Thursday to remove a 5x5x6 cm perirectal abscess. The softer things stay the better while I heal.

YIKES!

I am sure it will all come out IN THE END.

Seriously. I hope you feel normal as soon as possible.

Take care.

It didn't go unnoticed. I appreciate the gesture. And, as bad as it sounds, it could have been worse. No fistula through the rectal wall, which means this would be kind of chronic. And, in cleaning things out he didn't have to cut any sphincter muscle, which the surgeon warned was a possibility pre-op, and would mean post-op fecal incontinence. Dodged two bullets there. I'll take the pain in retrospect.

Rest up and get ready for opening day which is less than 2 weeks away.:D

Looks great' date=' but I couldn't eat any of it right now, Spud. Well, maybe I could have the pie filling. I'm limited to soft foods and liquids right now.[/quote']

If you're serious ORS, I'm sorry to hear it. Did you undergo some kind of operation? If so, have a strong recovery. I sometimes wonder if some of our so-called aspirants for those two rotation spots and recovering from something as well. No one seems to want to seal the deal.

Take care.

I do too. I have a feeling though he'll play just like Jed Lowrie. Hot through April then have talksox call for his head May-October.

I do three.

Although I believe that he will play well all season. I hope so anyway!

Cody Ross struck again.

Ross is looking legit. Thank goodness I have him on my team in both of my fantasy leagues. Hopefully he can keep this up throughout the season. Fenway definitely seems like it will be a good fit for him.

He's a very streaky player. When he is hot, he is white hot. He reminds me of Dauber in that regard.

Did anyone watch the game? I want to see how Melancon and Morales looked. I saw the stats, but that does not always indicate how their control was, velocity, etc.

He's never played at Fenway. I think the Monster is going to suit his swing very well.

It shouldn't hurt him, but I don't know if that will bring him the consistency that he has lacked until now.

I'm liking Ross as well, too bad he isn't a left handed hitter, or we could platoon him with DMac instead of Sweeney.

I don't think he will platoon at all. We need another RHH in this line up. He can easily be a .260/.330/.470 hitter this season with all the doubles odd the Monster. He could be Jason Bay Lite. 20-25 hr, 65-75 RBI.

Spud if you already said that, I'm just agreeing w you. I haven't been on here all that much lately, so I miss a lot. Sorry for stealing any thunder!
