Extending him may add some energy to the team. Maybe they are waiting for the right moment.

Not extending him might mean they've had someone in mind all along.

I think team moral would be negatively affected if they don't.

Probably, but I doubt anyone has it in the back of their mind, "Man, I'm bummed out he hasn't been extended yet," or even "I wonder why they haven't extended Tracy, yet.)

I disagree. I'd bet every member has it in mind and some have spoken of it.

I doubt it's bothering anyone but Chad and the other coaches, but yes, some have likely thought of it. I just don't think it's lingering in the back of any player's minds.

Once again, there will be no significant personnel nor contract decisions made until after the new CBA is done and JH knows the ramifications .

You might say, why does this include Tracy and the coaches.   I think it is partially the fact that Chad was truly a quick reaction INTERIM step when Breslow decided to can Cora . Chad and many players knew each other and Worcester was only about 40 miles down the Pike.   He was not vetted and selected from a large pool of candidates . The FO/Ownership wanted to see what he could do in the hot seat.     

To a fan and observer he has done great in terms of getting results from a group of players who were dead in the water through late June.  He is handling the Boston media well .

If the injury plagued Sox hold onto the WC slot, and especially if they win a playoff round , then Tracy must be retained.    His future is integrally tied to the next 20 games ( just go 10-10 minimum) and beating the NYY'ers at their house.    A terrible fade and dumpster dive in September, with a 2 and out at NY or total flop miss of the WC would send Tracy packing.      Could never happen ?? Yes, it did in 2011

Excellent observation. Arias is very unlikely to be called up for this very reason. Keep him playing into 2027.

Some may not think it but JH is a ticketing a long disruption to 2027 season

If there ever was a season to make deadline rental deals, this one was it- yet we didn't.

that's right. every minor-leaguer not on the 40 man will still be playing.

Despite claims to the contrary, Story is doing well enough to not need an Arias call-up, too.

Have any managers hired during the season been given a long-term contract?  Donnie Baseball is 70-43 and hasn't gotten an extension.

The 4 major underwater contracts according to BTV:

-28M Story ($6M value-$33M owed)

-20M Bello ($25M-$45M)

-18M Campbell ($38M-$55M)

-16M Yoshida ($4M-$20M)

Trading Story and Yoshida has been talked about enough. In theory, we could get someone to pay $10M of their remaining contracts. That doesn't get us much to use elsewhere, but it would free up a couple roster spots. We do seem to have enough middle infielders and DH types to not miss a beat.

Bello & Campbell have a lot of value by BTV standards: it's just their pay that brings them to significant underwater players. I think we keep both.

Trading Duran seems like a near sure bet, this winter. That would free up a little more money, and we have Anthony, Jones and White to fill the OF slot.

Assuming no Story, Duran or Yoshida, this could be the 13 everyday players:

Rutschman & Gasper (AAA: Wong/ Jo Garcia/GRod)

Contreras & Romy (AAA: Casas/Brannon)

Some good posts for why we haven't yet. One that hasn't been posted that maybe plays a part - Bres isn't guaranteed to keep his job. He pretty sure to, but until it's locked in, makes little sense to put a manager in place if a new GM was to come in.

Chad deserves the job and will almost certainly get it. But no rush, he's not going anywhere.

I think Story and Yoshida are a shoe in to be traded. Duran, too. Some pitching prospects in return would be nice.

If Campbell is finding himself again that would be a great addition to the team. 

Our pitching depth is very concerning, but otherwise I'm feeling very positive for the next 2-5 years.
