It's going to be interesting to see whether they use Bello if they have a shot to win this one or whether they are going to keep him for tomo.

Yankees have to be heavily favored tonight with Schlittler on the mound--especially with Sandoval going for the Sox.

Given the above and tomorrow's double-header plus a 4th game on Sunday, I think Tracy will want to avoid a big commitment of his bullpen tonight.

Funny thing, but the Sox beat Schlittler on June 25, June 265, when the Yankees gave up 4 unearned runs.  18 days earlier he beat the Sox, going 5.2 IP and giving up 1 ER.

Yankees are 13-10 in August to the Sox 15-9, but the Yankees played a tougher schedule.

Yankees run differential is +100 to the Sox +101.

Like the Sox, the Yankees win more on the road than at home.

Sox 2 best starters, Grey and Tolle, are not scheduled to go against the Yankees in this 4 game series (in 3 days).  Each has 2 quality starts vs the Yankees.

Sox were 5-4 vs the Yankees before the ASG.

Not wild about Sandoval in game one, but maybe he can come through…

We need 5 IPs and 2 runs.  If it's a game, we can throw our BP at them.  If not, hoping we can dig into their BP.  4 games in three days should squeeze both teams.

Everything is close.

  • NYY runs scored = 596, RS = 600
  • NYY runs allowed = 496, RS = 499

If he can't and Schlittler is throwing a no-hitter in front of Friday night rabid lupines foaming at the mouth, Tracy and Bails may rest everyone but Weissert and Seigler, who can pitch one inning righty and one inning lefty.

But then to win the series they'll have to sweep the doubleheader, which is a good trick anywhere, much less in the South Bronx already enraged it's the last Saturday of August before school starts again.

2-2 has to be considered acceptable in this 4 game matchup. 3-1 in favor of the Sox would be a huge win.

OTOH. a 4 game sweep by Boston should be seriously considered.
