If Story, IKF, Rutschman, Mead, Anthony and Crochet all return, which 5 players do you send down?

Rutschman = Rogers

Anthony = JJ or White

Story & Mead=Sogard & Seigler

Crochet = Weissert/Burgos

IKF might get DFAd

In order of when expected back...

I think we keep 3 catchers, even if AR comes back before Sept roster expansion. I think Jones goes.

Story returns next on Sept 1st, so no demotion needed.

Mead returns in September, and Sogard is demoted. (Gasper DFA'd)

Crochet may not comeback, but Burgos demoted (Burgos or Gamboa DFA'd).

IKF will be DFA'd unless Seigler is slumping.

You need to DFA 2 players to if you’re activating Crochet, Story and Anthony. (Soxprospects.com has their 40 man at 39 even after Burgos.)

DFA - Jahmai Jones, Jake Rogers. (Jones and Rogers are out of options and cannot be demoted.)  Demote Weissert, Seigler and Sogard.  Brett Harris should not survive this, but he might by having options.

Activate Crochet, Anthony, Story, Rutschman, and Mead all the way to the active roster..

I'd keep Rogers on the 26, even if we carry 3 catchers to Sept 1st. DFA Gasper. Demote Sogard first. (We could even demote Wong for a few days, just to keep Rogers.)

Burgos or Gamboa goes when and if Crochet is added.

Story would bump Seigler of bump and DFA Jones.

Does Wong have an option? If so, that changes plenty of things…

Other than Rutschman, Mead and maybe Crochet, I'm not sure if I would make any other changes.  The team is playing well together.  Story, IKF and Anthony can sit and heal for next year.  I didn't even include Romy in this group.

Ouch!  I forgot about the roster expansion.  Feel free to ignore my previous post.

Question-If the rosters expand to 28, does that mean the pitching roster expands to 14?  That could be important since we need more rest in the rotation and BP.

soxprospects.com says 1 remaining.

Oh the he goes down for Rutschman, which means Harris and Gasper both become more likely DFA candidates…

I’d keep Rogers because he isn’t Mickey Gasper…

Gasper has options, but yes, he should be one of the first to be DFA'd once someone needs to come off the 60 (first one?) If we DFA Roger (NO!!!!) then we might keep Gasper as (eeek!) Catching depth.

I greatly prefer Rutschman, Rogers and Wong as catching depth.  Gasper can go.

Harris, too.  He was never needed.  DFAing those two gets Crochet and Story back on the 40 man. When Anthony is ready, Jones is no longer needed and cannot be demoted, so he can get DFAd.

The Sox would still need to option some players to get Story, Crochet, Mead and IKF back on the active roster.  Sogard, Seigler, and Weissert/Burgos might be the only optionable players left.  IKF might face DFA himself.  The bench would be Rogers, Monasterio, White and either Duran or Yoshida.

But that’s assuming all 5 come back before September, which doesn’t feel likely…

I agree. I think we'll just DFA IKF, and only need to add 4. We'll go with 3 catchers and maybe even DH AR, some, if he's hitting well.

My 28 Man Roster: No JJ (DFAd) or Seigler & Sogard

C: AR, Wong & Rogers

1B: Contreras (Mead)

2B: Mead (Story/Monasterio)

SS: Monasterio & Story

3B: Durbin (Monasterio)

LF: Duran & Yoshida

CF: Rafaela & White

RF: Abreu (White)

DH: Anthony (Yoshida/Mead)

SP: Gray, Suarez, Bennett, Tolle, Crochet

RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Bello, Moran, T Guerrero, Sandoval, Miller, Weissert,

If Anthony returns, do we need White?  Duran should suffice as the #4, with Yoshida as the #5.

Just a side note of little import, but the players trying to get back on the 26/40 are those who contributed to the 14 game below .500 record , and the ones being bounced are among those who have done much except win, win, win.

The correct move is to roster and lineup the best talent , but I hope all these backups get WS rings and checks.

I think Anthony will DH and Yoshida will platoon with Duran in LF. (I guess Anthony could play LF vs L.)

Jones goes, but White is a tough call.

I get the best talent thing, but I think they need to play their way back into the lineup.  Crochet is a star, so he gets a slot.  But right now, Duran (that could change daily) and Yoshida should be the starters.  Story has a legit shot at 2nd.

Once Anthony is healthy, Duran or Yoshida will sit.

Duran has not earned a right to stay starting. Yoshida has, but that could change- as could Duran's outlook.

I think Mead gets a starting slot more than Story gets one, but Brez & Co. likely disagrees. There is room for both to start, too. To me, Story has to earn it back, despite his ending to the 2025 season.

Better backup for CF/RF and has no options.  Although since Yoshida is likely DH, Jones maked more sense as a platoon option.

But since Anthony hasn’t even faced fast pitching yet and still has to make a rehab start, he might not be back until rosters expand, in which case they might keep them all.

After just putting Yoshida at DH, I suppose it could be Mead.

And not go with 3 catchers? (Wong in AAA all Sept.)

About to start hitting from a machine. That's not AUG 31st ready,

It’s certainly possible.  3 catchers is a rarity these days with only Cardinals carrying that many and that’s because Herrera never catches anymore…

It might depend on AR's ability to catch a lot.

Yes, it's a rarity before Sept 1st, but what of afterwards?

Probably fine.  Depends if the Sox add a pitcher and what they do with Jones and/or White.

Almost everyone goes to 14+14, and with Bennett & Tolle at career max's in IP, we likely will too.

The White and Jones with no options is an issue, and since both ar RHB, I'm not sure we'd demote Duran, even if it was the right thing to do, because he's a lefty.

We can manage the infield fine without needing one infield utility, as we can yo-yo the depth, since there are no option issues.

I don't think Anthony will be ready by Sept 1st, and maybe won't be this year, so we can maybe start with 3 catchers. By the time Anthony is ready maybe someone is slumping, of they will be totally fed up with Duran and demote him.
