DHern had one of MLB's best H/9 over the first year or two (yes, very small sample size.)

2019-2021: 61 Hits in 79 IP but 65 BBs! Whoopdeedoo with the 3.85 FIP!

His BB/9 was never below 7.0 in a season and his last season was 10.8!

Miller career: 97 Hits in 130 IP (fantastic!) 80 BB/130 is DHernesque. By seasons...

5.1> 6.0> 6.1 (Better than DHern, okay, but...)

That's not showing improvement!

One last point, DHern finished his career early (just 4 seasons) with a 4.54 FIP. Tim Wakefield pitched 19 seasons with a 4.72 FIP. The whole in the FIP stat is that high BB/9 guys can look good, but they don't last long.

Well, Andrew Vaughn is still listed at 5’10 after years of being listed at 6’.

Thats not much of a correction for a guy that is maybe 5’8”.  Maybe.

I think thats a generous height for a guy that has to climb on the counter to get a cereal bowl off the top shelf and who still shops at Gap Kids…

The trade looked great out of the gate, but Miller is moving towards the "can't trust in high leverage" category.

He's let up runs in 4 of his last 5 games:

4.1 IP

5 Hits & 6 BB + 2 HBP (just 4 Ks) That's 13 runners in 4.1 IP!

Agree, having Arias waiting in the wing made the trade easier to make. Everything I have read Mayer's family pushed for and was happy with the trade. Not everyone has what it takes to play under the pressure of playing for the Sox. Plus he was always hurt and that didn't help with him trying to gain traction in the majors.

When Early was traded, his ETA from injury was an unknown. I think missing the season was sort of expected.

Mead was expected to be healthy. I think this was the main reason we made the trade. I think Early was viewed as slightly better but we needed a bat "NOW" and Mead had several years of control, too.
