Do you agree or disagree?

In this case, at this moment, I agree with BTV. Haha

This can be a win, but a lot has to go right for it to be, is all I'm saying.

Deeply mixed emotions.  I think Rutschman and Miller cost a big chunk of this organization.  But more important, the Sox should be better tomorrow than they were yesterday, and got that way while keeping Arias, who needs to be promoted ASAP.

and i think Arias is a big part of the reason Mayer got traded.

That's kinda the bottom line, and by the end of next year or 2028, Primera, Delzine & Soto might be more highly regarded than Eyanson, Witherspoon & Azocar. If not them, maybe Valera, Godbout and Gonzales.

We have a very controlled team with very few past-prime players in key roles.

Even losing Gray, this winter and Chapman next does not seem like insurmountable losses.

Our rotation looks awesome for many years to come.

We have many everyday players for 3+ years and a deep bench, especially at middle infield.

We'll need a LF/DH, soon (Anthony fills just one), a catcher after Rut and a 1Bman after Willson.

We'll need a closer after 2027.

Gotta be, but also Monasterio, Seigler, Cheng, Sogard and even IKF to add 2026 depth.

(I won't mention Story.)

Very likely.

Although it’s interesting all this talk about adding a shortstop, and when the dust settled we had fewer of them when we started…

First Rut Man has to get back on the field, and stay there, which has been no sure thing the last two years. Second Skubal most likely will resign with the Dodgers, so all your calculations speculations will all most likely be way off.🙈

These are not 'calculations speculations'.  From MLB:

  • Tigers got Hope (55), River (55), and Smith (45)
  • BA got Eyanson (55), Witherspoon (50) and Azocar (45)

Those are the existing FV values.  Eyanson could be a HOF or a washout, but today's FV values are today's FV values.

Then i will mention Story.  He will be held back until he complains that he is ready , then will be given the 20 day max rehab in Worcester, extending out to mid or late September ,then a decision will be needed which could well include a waiver situation, eating his remaining contract.  OR Brez could decide that a veteran presence would help the team  in the playoffs, but isn't IKF a qualifier there.??

Just seems steep for only 1.5 years AND currently on the IL.

Hearing that the 2 pitchers given up are damaged goods.

Yeah, that was a little hyperbole, but the I'd say they were close. Skubals was a little more top heavy, ours a little deeper.

NP, I don't get too deep into the minutiae.  Given that Skubal's talent probably offsets Rutschman's extra year, the difference in talent is immaterial.  I think we needed a catcher more than two month's of an ace.

Ya’ll might be too young to remember a swap way before divisional play.  Sox needed a power bat, the got a guy named Danny Cater and gave up a pitcher who you may have heard of…Spark Lyle.   See ya later Danny Cater got a grand total of 5 hrs in his time with the Sox.

That was 54 years ago, not 30.

He was never untouchable for me. lol I've been the one saying we'd be lucky to get a good reliever for him, and everyone said I was crazy.

Well, technically I said not a rental reliever.  Also, yes, you’re crazy 🤪

But at least it’s one of the happy kinds…

For sure. I was never advocating for Skubal. I was advocating for using our eggs to fill multiple baskets instead of putting them all in the hopefully healthy catcher basket. If he comes back healthy and plays well, and the staff doesn't miss a beat, I'll change my tune real quick.

Marcelo Mayer an untouchable 1 year ago…. For Erik miller

They should have traded him a year ago and got a bigger return.

Skubal might re-sign with the Dodgers.  If they’re not the favorites, they’re certainly high on the list.  But that has nothing to do with this trade, even if he extends tomorrow.    And he very well might, with LA trying to get his deal in just in case the new CBA inhibits it somehow.  But regardless, the trade was for 2 months of Skubal…

And Duran two years ago.

But with Mayer, Arias wasn’t looking like the same prospect a year ago..

You can spin this deal any you want but in the end it’s a huge overpay

you boys put a finger in one ear and listen good, as an Organization YOU Scout Draft and Develop Catching, you don’t trade for it, you don’t spend in FA on it and you don’t trade Starting caliber pitching for it !

the position is to labor intensive after 3 or 4 years behind plate these players go to DH or 1B and that’s if they can hit..

Breezelow trade grade D

I’ll Quote the great Tito Francona “good luck with that”

Haha. Just crazy enough to work.

And I said we'd be do well to get a good RP for Mayer, and was met with much backlash. lol. The subject was Morejon who is better, but a rental. I might still take Morejon for a playoff run over controllable years from Miller, but that might just be me. Still feel validated though. 🤣

Plus the PO's, which I'm sure was the main motivation for the trade.

That's what is meant about hindsight being golden.

I could cling to the “but not a rental” to validate my stance, but I am taking the L there…

Assuming LA makes it.  I mean, they just got swept at home by a team that was 32-46 not too long ago…
