Sonny Gray on the bump against a struggling Flaherty. It'd be nice to see the Sox get more than one win in a row against a similarly-struggling Tigers team.

Uhh, Brock, i think they have won 2 in a row and are threatening their season high 3 win streak later tonight.

Note that for the Sox , there is a huge difference between sweeping ( 3-0) and winning the series 2-1., a net gain of 1.   An improvement no doubt, but a limited one.

Sweep and reduce the deficit to .500 to 5 games.,  Lose and go back to 7 off a mediocre pace.   Should they go on a run and climb back to .500 by Memorial Day, then something very good will have happened.

Flaherty last 3 starts:

9 IP, 10 ER, 4 HR, 13 H, 11 BB, 11 K, 2.67 WHIP, 10.00 ERA

So, MVP, you are saying we have no chance tonight ?     Really hope the bats stay alive and the Sox sweep

We do hit the good pitchers more often than expected. It also seems like the non-names and struggling pitchers get the best of us more often than expected.

Very winnable game.  Good pitching matchup, depending on if Gray is rusty, and the entire BP available, except the Throwin' Gamboan.

I will be unable to watch tonight so anything is possible.

Why in the world was Hinch suspended??  There was no way he ordered that,   And he all but took the Red Sox side in his comments after the game.    (Unless the league thought he was pissed that RS might be stealing signs--  which I guess Hinch knows plenty about).

AJ was at fault for not sending Antonio Perkins to the showers earlier so none of the crap happened.

Gray is clearly in decline.  For the past decade, his calling card was “you better swing because I’m not going to walk you.”  This year his walks are way up…

Gray struggles to get through 3 but gets it done. Not unexpected after 15 days down

They all need some warm weather.

Duran has the uncanny ability to make really accurate throws to 2nd base.

The defense overall has been very good this year. Just a few games when they look like amateurs. Abreu made a great play in RF too

Pretty poor in first ten games. Much better since and making big plays

The Tigers are nothing to write home about.

The AL Central reminds me of the 2006 NL Central when the Cardinals won the Central with an 83-78 record and ended up winning the WS.

There are only 3 teams in the AL with a won/loss record over .500. And one of those teams is only one game over .500.

The wild cards are wide open even if the teams aren't all that good.

Contreras has definitely provided the Sox with excellent D at first and a good bat.

We haven't had that in a long while.

I said back in early ST that we would not be seeing Casas again.

One more of the Red Sox high potential flameouts that got  seriously sidetracked

Masa's not into that strike out shite

Sox are ranked 17th in MLB in strike outs per 9 innings. I was really surprised they weren't ranked lower.

After this game their ranking may change.

I had completely forgotten about Casas until your post
