Impressed that Gray went 6 innings with NO WALKS. Pretty much the stat I look at for pitchers anymore.

Had good control today. It’s what he’s known for.

Xander has 7 years left at $25M AFTER 2026 season. Ugh.

Even Boras must have been chuckling under his breath.  I had $156M/6 as the right number, though I'd have paid a little more since I liked him.  SD was over-market by a solid $100M.  I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone miss by that much.

Simple solution to Story's current negative run at the plate, he is reaching for pitches well across the outer half and trying to pull them.  If he simply tried contact where the ball is travelling he would improve immensely.

He should be batting #2 in no known universe,  That is on Cora, the player's manager

Bogaert's contract ,  even worse than Yoshi's , made no sense whatsoever .   SD will be paying that bill for a long time with no meaningful return.

Now that Durbin finally got his 1 hit, and an RBI,  maybe now he could focus on the strike zone and swing at pitches located therein.

A general comment  about hitting is that the Sox are not showing much plate discipline and are free swinging, leading to mucho K's.

An essential win well done !    Almost predictable but reinforces my thought that the 6 game road trips to open the season are a negative for ST weary Sox players.

Got away with missing Whitlock

1. Anthony DH- Let's put the better OF'er at DH.

2. Story SS- Let's keep the new "team leader" batting 2nd.

3. Duran LF- Inferior on defense to Roman.

4. Contreras 1B- The 4th batter in a row under .685.

5. Abreu RF- The only guy pulling his weight.

6. Durbin 3B- God-awful start to '26.

7. Mayer 2B- Needs to show he belongs.

8. Narvaez C- Back after being benched.

9. Rafaela CF- Mr. RBI needs some more.

What, wha, wha. This must be another one of your I don’t agree with Cora, but I don’t think he’s wrong post that you’re so infamous for.

Even Kirk Cousins’ agent is impressed…

Good win today! That should bring a few in off the ledge.

I didn't get it Wednesday when Cora left Whitlock in for 30 pitches, figuring he'd be unavailable for a couple days because of it.  In another instance of managers know stuff we don't, it turns out he was not going to be available for a vastly different reason.

Congrats to Garrett and his wife on a baby boy.

Let's hope Mayer can keep this up.

Nice poke by Willson, too.

Mr RBI, Ceddanne kept it up.

Even Durbin got a key hit.

We still K's 8 times to 1 walk. 9 hits is not great, either, but a win is a win.

Gray looked very good, and we'll need more like this from him over the season.

It's still a bit scary to see just 3 batters in the line-up above .671.

1.214 Abreu

1.015 Mayer

.834 Narvaez (with Wong at 1.300 in 10 PAs)

Chapman & Whitlock have gone 6 IP with 0 ERs allowed. (2 Hits & 3 BB) Slaten also has not allowed a run in 2.1 IP (1Hit & 2BB)

1.69 Early

3.27 Crochet

4.50 Gray

Story is living one of his slumping cycles already.  Cora should know that, and putting him batting 2 is supidity at its finest. His approach to the plate is beyond horrendous. His defense is sloppy too. He simply sucks right now. Sit his ass, put Rafaela or Monasterio at second and move Mayer at SS, and DH Yoshida.

Help yourself for God's sake!

this is where Cora is a "players manager" to a fault.

yeah...i woulda loved to have kept the Xman but no freakin' way at those prices. SD probably already regretting that deal.
