Original tread title:  What do the A's, White Sox and Red Sox have in common?

We are all in last place,.tied for worst record, 1-5.  I can't see it getting any better.  Our pitching is like the Titanic when the iceberg hit it.  Now 2-8.  We have no power.  Our starting pitcher ERA is 5.4.

hitting and coaching are just as bad.

I think the hitting will turn it around. I think the pitching is better than this. I think it has been the same coaching since 2019 (aside from pitching). It's time to move on from the whole group.

So, 27-135 is your projection, now?

It seems that the opposing teams know what pitch is coming. They are hitting the ball squarely with the barrel of the bat. Our "hitters" tend to just wave at pitches outside the strike zone. WTF? Are they intercepting our pitch signals (ala Houston a few years back)? We spent a lot of capital on players like Durbin who could easily be replaced by a player on our farm team. Forget the trades - use our farm system. That is where the future is. These traded-for guys suck.

There's nobody coming that is remotely ready to play IF/OF/C.

The offensive top 20 prospects (per SoxProspects):

#2 Franklin Arias - SS - AA (709 OPS in High A last year)

#8 Justin Gonzales - OF - A+ (804 OPS in A last year)

#9 Dorian Soto - SS - FCL

#11 Henry Godbout - 2B/SS - A+ (1st pro season)

#12 Mikey Romero - 2B/3B - AAA (745 OPS in AAA last year)

#15 Enddy Azocar - OF - A

#16 Allan Castro - OF - AAA (753 OPS in AA last year)

#17 Hector Ramos - SS - FCL

#18 Harold Rivas - OF - FCL

Of these guys, only Romero and Castro have a reasonable chance of playing in BOS this year. Castro has gotten off to an ice cold start. Romero had a 30% k rate at AAA last season. He needs to show that can come down considerably before he's ever called up. His power is legit if he can cut down the whiff rate. Much easier said than done and would get eaten alive if called up.

Other than Abreu the rest of the Sox have been terrible. It has been magnified because it's the opening week of the season, but the pitching (both starting and bullpen), hitting (what is with all the strikeouts), and defense have not been where it needs to be. After Game 1 it has become worse. Game 2 the Sox couldn't score in either the 10th or 11th. Really! Game 3 the bullpen blew.  Weissert in high leverage. Really! Don't trust him at all. The Astro series was a nightmare! Talk about not showing up! On the positive, there are 156 games left in the season.

They'll be in contention-for fourth place.

Position players were available on the FA market this winter. We all know why we didn't sign any of them and got bums like IKF and Durbin.

The FA players were overrated and old.

The words "position" and "Campbell" are Polar Park opposites right now.

Arias already has MLB defense. He's similar to Rafaela, when Ceddanne was still in the minors -- Gold Glove hands, but needs to use them to hack less at pitches outside the zone...

... which brings me back to my low point of the season so far: how in the world was a guy who has never shown any knowledge of the strike zone whatsoever allowed to challenge a call on an 0-0 pitch in the 2nd inning?

How many Ivy League degrees in Breslow and Bailey's Circus does it take to set some team policies on WHEN to use challenges and WHO is even permitted to contemplate them?

Rafaela raked in MiLB. Arias does not.

Agree 100% on Rafaela and challenges.  If I’m Cora, he is told you challenge a pitch again, you won’t finish the AB.  Then. AC has to follow up actually doing it.

It’ll never happen.

In the American League?

Optimistic but I’m on board…

Are we really nitpicking the use of the ABS system now?

Maybe, since it’s a new system, everyone was instructed to try it out and be aggressive with their challenges?

They’re not going to limit who gets to challenge calls.  The Sox want everyone able to do it…

Cora might want his players getting used to that system.  Especially since you only have 2 seconds to make a challenge…

And I thought there is no fourth place in the AL, just the ALE. Silly me.
