Final Forty update: 5-3 , huge series win. potential sweep. 32 to go !

But how is this the same  team that just dropped 2 to O's

Posted

Sox are now 4.5 from TOR, who I feel is due for a tough stretch, soon.

Sox up 1.5 on NYY & SEA

up 4.5 on the WC outsider KCR & 5.5 on CLE.

The Sox are 0.5 GB the 8th best record in MLB (HOU) and 3rd best in the AL.

He gets s*** on a lot but Hamilton has played an outstanding game today.

I think he's a good spare part.  I don't know his OPS is August, but suspect it's pretty decent.  He is hands down our best defensive 2b.  And he's pretty good on the bases when he doesn't wander off 3b to meditate.

His August OPS (4 games) is .750.  Gonzalez's (17 games) is .698.

Tomorrow night it's May vs another Yankees lefty, Rodon, who is pretty good.

Yesterday lefty Fried held the Sox scoreless for 6 IP even with a lot of righty Sox bats in the lineup.

Lowe is a big improvement over Toro.

Has another arb year too. Very glad we picked him up.

He might make $10-12M in arb.

That could tighten up what we can do at other positions, but it seems worth it.

It all about match-ups

I disagree.  The Yankees lineup is loaded, but the Sox bullpen, Bello, Crochet, and even Giolito were at the top of their form.

I just heard that the Phillies have lost Wheeler for the rest of the the season due to a surgery, which doesn't appear to be baseball related. A team doesn't replace a pitcher like that guy.

It is baseball related.  It's a serious problem caused by throwing overhand.  Same thing Strasberg had and he had to retire.

I'd be tempted to offer him a 3 year deal, see if you can get him to sign for like 3 x 10/12. He's had a down season and may be open to it.

Then package Casas and Yoshi together and literally give them away, hopefully eating as little of Yoshi's money as possible (this won't be easy admittedly)

C Narvaez

1B Lowe

2B Mayer

SS Story

3B Bregman

LF Anthony

CF Rafaela

RF Abreu

DH Duran (rotating among the 4 out fielders)

Gonzalez, Password, Campbell and Wong as the bench pieces.

Buy in pitching.

Looks exciting to me.

Hitch, you should post this on the 2026 Foundation thread.

Good conversation. What are you not liking?

1. Campbell on the bench.  He wasn’t signed for 8 years to be a bench player.

2. Why extend Lowe when he is controlled for another year? Washington didnt DFA him for being overly talented.  No need to rush here and give away other players to accommodate a player that just got released by a horrible team.

3. Trades are best used for acquiring, not unloading.  The premature contract for Lowe was likely to get him at a discounted price, a feat that is negated and then some by paying Yoshida to play elsewhere.  Not to mention giving away all your trade assets to then buy pitching.

4. Replacing Yoshida with an outfield rotation in itself is a bad idea, considering two of those outfielders cannot hit lefties.

It would be much easier to simply trade Duran and Casas for pitching…

You should move to 2026 thread also.

I watched the Yankees telecast of that game.  The despair in their tone as they admitted the Yankees are getting their asses kicked was priceless.  God they are playing just such terrible baseball all over the field.
