Where's the cavalry promised by Bres?

I have a bad feeling about this trade deadline. Another year to punt.

I was told that teams didnt trade players in advance of the deadline.  The problem with this theory, is that after hearing it, I looked around

I would not bring Hicks in.  He warmed up completely once, a 90 minute delay isn’t going to be good.

you called it...it was a bad situation all the way around. I can't blame Hicks and I can't blame Cora and I really can't be upset the way the game went South...long rain delay destroyed all the feel good momentum of Roman's great RBI hit

Most deals happen July 31.  There have only been a handful of deals so far, and really only one potential Sox target.  Two if you think Nick Fortes should have been on their radar.

The problem the Sox (and most teams) have is the selling teams are in absolutely no rush to make deals and start losing more often even sooner.  They can afford to wait out best offers.  There is some risk if a player gets hurt or gets involved in gambling, however…

i'm so glad Brez traded Raffy for this salary dump POS. now, he's like Masa. we're paying him a bunch of money so we have to use him even though he's worthless as f***.

This is what I said when I heard about the clearing a path for Masa...the guy is useless, and no better than Rusney Castillo or other disastrous signings of non-MLB entities who are being touted as the next whatever flavor of the month.

It's Tuesday AM. Deadline is another 60 hours away or so. Nothing is happening fast and furious anywhere.

we have a winner...he's a wimp. He'll be second coming of Matt Barnes, later years.

I read that he had nausea due to the extremely rough flight. If his brain is spinning, not sure I want him pitching.

Also is there some rule that means Yoshi has to be DH and not have Duran, Abreu, Raffy (why is he playing 2nd??) and Anthony share the DH spot--meaning 4 OF can co-exist. If Yoshida wasn't a salary albatross I doubt he is on the MLB roster.

Albatross? The contract isn't that big. Henry could eat it in a deal if he wanted to. Just trade him and eat 80% of it.

If they took enough of his contract, you could trade him.

He's only had 42 PAs this year.  Last 2 years he hit .783 and .765.  The team needs to have more patience than we do.

You can go around and around on the subject that Duran brought up and I know it's ad nauseum at this point, but I don't care anymore about the feel good and the "happy camaraderie" of the clubhouse...and yes you want some of that too--but Devers absence is costing this team more and more in games like yesterday.

Yikes, so it's better to have a guy do nothing in a playoff chase than find a better option that is already available on the roster. You could play a number of guys who are sitting every other day over Yoshi

After being out for MONTHS, he only got 14 PA's in AAA. Very weird. I honestly don't understand how they handle him. He was hitting really well at points last year and they'd just ignore him.

In 35 games with the Giants Devers has a .722 OPS, 4 HR and 15 RBI.  He's had a lot of bad games.

What a fan.

The best kind! Not many fans can defer gratification in favor of what’s best for the team!

different Story if he was a Sox in some of the parks including Fenway. What he does as a Giant is irrelevant

So you’d rather watch them lose 55 more games than watch them lose 2 postseason games?  Yeah that makes sense…

Absolutely! Move way up that draft order so they can be a competitive team in a couple of years.

Guys break out of slumps all the time, danny.  He was a good hitter the last 2 years.  Too soon to panic.

You discount Devers every chance you get, I don't care about a "slump" as much as I care about a  non-power hitter take his spot in the every day lineup..it's a massive down-grade...massive from a run producing point of view

The team does have more patience than us.

Yoshida’s start reminds me of a player who, in his first 42 PAs this year was hitting .176 and slugging .294. Coincidently, he also had a limited spring training.  Devers took off offensively after that.

Note - I AM NOT COMPARING THE TWO, but just a Devers didn’t forget how to hit, neither has Yoshida.  Masa is a solid hitter

Not long ago you were saying the team had no chance to make the playoffs.  Now you're admitting they have a realistic chance of making the playoffs but you don't want them to.

You call them the Flops, but you're a Flip Flopper.

In 35 games for Devers, 12 for Yoshida.

Devers was pretty ugly in his first 12 games this year.

He was, agreed...he was horrific...and then he started to hit, and then the Sox were in a winning streak or winning mode when he adjusted to full-time DH...which is what--the most perfect thing you wanted for Raffy--no one wanted him defensively--we wanted his offense and his RBI and his power--you know EXACTLY what he was doing when Breslow impulsively salary dumped.
