Rafaela k’s on a ball a foot outside. He still isn’t ready for prime time. His flash in the pan will end soon because he has no plate discipline.

Duran and Narvaez come through to build a cushion with 6 outs to go.

It will be quite a decision for Breslow if he has to decide between Duran and Abreu to get pitching.  I know the analytics favor moving the older Duran but  he can be exciting and may be a great teammate type. tough choice but the system is full at the MLB and MiLB levels with young, cheap talent.

More credit to Breslow's team for finding Narvaez.   And for dumping the contract of the former DH.

One more post to eat.

He still has zero plate discipline. That’s why he’ll find his natural level: striking out a lot on balls a foot off the plate.

Well with each loss the Rockies shot at getting back to .500 is diminishing.

Red Sox on the other hand are guaranteed of being at or over .500 through Wednesday night.

Two teams in the same universe but heading away from each other

The Red Sox are only two games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final Wild Card slot.

Mayer can play vs LH'ers when he starts kissing Cora's 2018  WS ring.   At least , no Hamilton yet.

Cora has no problem starting Anthony against righties and lefties.

Why anyone throws Rafaela a strike is beyond me. He’s pretty good at hitting balls thrown down the middle, like nearly all MLB hitters.

Rafaela ranks 7th on the team in K's.  Story, Duran, Devers, Campbell, Abreu, and Narvaez all have more K's.  He is 2d on the team in total bases, 5th in rbi's, 1st in runs scored, 3d in SB's, and has the highest DWAR and WAR on the team.

You wouldn't know a good MLB player if he bit you in the ankle.

Small crowd tonight, 32,441.  They've been getting around 35K recently, so this must be because it's the Rockies.

I recognize a bum with a bat in his hands far better than you do, obviously. Enjoy this little flash in the pan by your hero. Once pitchers realize they never need to throw him a strike he’ll be back to his old incompetent self with an OPS+ closer to his career number which is 92.-below average.

Through all this crap, the Yanks are just 3 better.

the guy is closing in on 1000 PAs. The league knows all about Ceddanne.

Great win! We are seeing some great numbers from guys like Romy, Toro, Story and Narvaez.

if I’d told you these guys were carrying us into contention in July, whodathunkit?

Got to admit that I do like Eaton but not playing Mayer against both righties and lefties is just silly.  We need his defense and given half a real chance , he’ll hit lefties.  Eaton would become my new Hamilton.

If Dobbins comes back healthy, we’ll have to big strong right arms good to go with both him and Fitts.

Plus MLB pitchers have a ton of data and video at their disposal.  Fred's 'wait till pitchers learn they don't have to throw him a strike' take is pretty amusing. 😀

Gomber has been one of the worst pitchers in MLB since 2023 (7th worst fWAR for qualified starters, 5th worst ERA, 2nd highest HR/9). Rockies may sneak out a win in one of these games, but I don't know if it's this one.

Gomber's ERA did NOT go down after last night, that's for sure.
