Hopefully the kid goes 5/5 and plays stellar defense.

he doesn’t hit as well against lefties, it’s one of his few knocks.  Not a finished product but he’s ready.

Obviously I want to see him play well, but I’ll get a chuckle if he makes an error and people lose their minds.  Let’s remember it’s his first big league start.

i never would have guessed Anthony would have been the last one up of the big three but here we are.

Have they said, he'll play 3B? (Or, who will?)

I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m waiting for them to drop lineup on twitter

Probably means a Bregman IL Stint is coming

Watching the interview with Bregman just now, he sounds like it is significant injury and will take some time to heal and  rehab. Hopefully not a 60 day IL, but I would guess 30-45 minimum to come back

Sox fans are elated!!!!!!! Maybe this is the jolt we need....go on a streak.

For Mayer's sake and the teams, I hope the expectations are not off the charts.   Playing daily at the MLB level is not easy in any way.

We have seen Kristian Campbell's strong start followed by an extended regression period, .  Despite couple of hard hit outs today, he still looks lost and takes strikes he should be hitting.  His fielding is ok, but not exceptional and now is trying to learn 1B.

Cora was hinting he thinks that.  I think he's hoping for 10 days.

I remember thinking that 10games at 3B for Bogey, before he was called up was too little. I think Mayer has 6 games at 3B, scattered over a few seasons.

He only has 10 at 2B, so that option was not really better.

We gotta do what we gotta do.

Good luck, Marcelo. You are now under the spotlight.

Obviously an inauspicious debut  and minor contributor to a sick 2-1 loss.   This team will miss Bregman far more than we would like to acknowledge right now.

Think about Mayer's day:    He knows that Bregman may have an injury and that Devers will  not pick up the slack at 3B.  Then sits out the first game of 2 at WooSox , then gets informed he needs to bag his gear and drive to  Boston for the second game of the Red Sox DH.  Gets interviewed by the kindly Boston press, finds a locker, gets dressed and is at the plate before we have dinner.

Not at all shocked that he was in shock and incapable of doing anything.  with the bat.   I also hope he doesn't need 10 games to get it going or he will be in a serious mental mess.

Where does he sleep tonight.  Probably drives back to Worcester to get his toothbrush

I think Mayer will be fine, but we need Bregman back as soon as possible.

I hope it's just 10-15 days,, and when he gets back, Mayer has earned his stay.

Apologies if this topic is somewhere else (or beat to death) but where do you think they should put him? Putting aside "poor roster construction," it seems a real challenge. unless they trade someone. Maybe it's Ceddane to shortstop? problems with that too, but can't see another way. Or have Anthony try 1B and keep campbell at second? yikes

Eventually he will be CF/RF.  Sometime between now and the start of 2026.

rafaela or Abreu will be out.  Either by trade or reduced role

Last time he had this same injury he missed 58 games.

Don't scare me like this!

Face reality , Moon.   It's a cold dark place way under the Cf grandstands.    Joking, but Bregman will miss 45 games +-  and will need another 10 games to catch up to MLB speed.

The Sox outfield is 4th in MLB in fWAR, 7th in OAA, 1st in DRS.

Are you saying this needs to be broken up to accommodate a minor leaguer?

Are you saying trade Anthony or move him to 1B/DH?

No one said to trade Anthony.  I don’t see the rush here.

The Sox OF is fine.  The problems are in the infield, where every day either Nick Sogard or Abraham Toro starts.  How is promoting Anthony going to change that?

Romy Gonzalez gets to be part of the solution when he returns,   Not exciting, but reality sometimes isn’t…

Eventually, a choice will have to be made, as all our starting OF'ers have 2+ years of control, after 2025. We have some serious needs in other areas, so there is some sense to the idea that an OF'er should be traded for a pitcher or 1Bman.

I'm not for trading Anthony. (I'm always okay for trading anyone for a better return or an equal one in an area of higher need.)

I also want to keep Abreu and Duran.

I like Anthony more than Rafaela, but I'm fine with keeping him in CF FT, unless he dipd below .640 or so and seems like he's staying there.

Ref may retire, but he's a short-side platoon and would not give Anthony a FT role in 2026.

No, there is no rush, but we do have pressing needs and surpluses at some positions.

Leave Anthony right where he is.

Yes, we know: suspects are just suspects until they prove they are not, and they never deserve to get a chance to be tested, unless a key injury opens a slot.

Got it.

The funny thing is that you think you’re complaining about me, but what you haven’t figured out is that you’re really complaining about Brez, and Cora, because what you just said the Red Sox are actually doing. Glad you finally got it. All aboard!👋🤭
