Mayer barely escapes the dreaded Golden Sombrero.

Tonight showed how much Bregson is missed.  Not the glove, but the bat.

No, his glove will also be missed. He's a Golden Glove 3rd baseman. What are you drinking?

W/O Bregman for 2 months may making the PO's a bridge too far. Only the Sox could lose both their corner infielders to injuries.

Bregson was a huge loss.  Casas was not.

To make up for the loss of offense get rid of Story and bring up Anthony, ASAP.

Just admit Story was a mistake and eat whatever's left of his contract. This wouldn't be the 1st time.

Check with the Dodgers first. Maybe they'll take Story off your hands. They've bailed the Sox out before.

Bregman is a terrific all around thirdbaseman, but the Sox miss his hitting far more than his gold glove.  Tonight Mayer was flawless at 3b and flawful at bat.  In his first three at bats, he didn't just K all three times, he never made contact with ball, not even a foul tip.   Finally he made contact with a weak grounder in his 4th at bat.

The Sox defense has been better than I expected--Narvaez is now the #1 ranked (DWAR 1.0) catcher in MLB, Bregman was #2 (DWAR 0.8) at 3b, Abreu #3 (DWAR 0.6) in RF, and Rafaela #1 (DWAR 1.2)  in CF.  Hamilton is tied for 4th best secondbaseman (DWAR 0.5).  I happen to like Story at SS, especially on double plays.  And I don't think Duran in LF or Casas at 1b are or were big problems at LF and 1B.

The Sox hitting is ranked 6th in MLB in runs scored.

The problem is with the pitching--even though they did well in the night game.

Not if Anthony hits like Mayer.  One game granted, but an ignominious one at bat.  Story is ranked 4th among MLB shortstops in double plays.

Couldn’t catch the second game, but reading the thread seems it wasn’t a good night for Mayer. Not sure whether it was a good idea putting him today in the lineup, I would have waited until tomo to let the kid install first but it is what it is. He’s going to be fine though.

IMHO the Sox are not yet ready for win it all or make some noise in the POs or even make it this year. If my hypothesis is true they should ramp up the youngsters now hoping they will be ready to splash in a couple of years like Duran did. I really have very high hopes on Mayer, Campbell and Anthony but we have to be patient. They probably are going to need at least a couple of years to adapt. I’m all in even if we miss the POs this and next year but you have to give them a big chunk of ABs.

This team has proven, as currently constructed , they are not good enough to be anything more than a .500 team.

Your move, Mr Breslow

Bring Kelly back

We really have not been able to get one of our many mediocre type or semi-promising pen depth guys to earn a slot on the staff.

When will there be a sense of urgency to win close low scoring games? I think Cora uses the bullpen to purposely lose games so his pitchers wont have to pitch extra innings. Its all a part of the master plan. Bah ha ha ha ha. Cue lightning and thunder.

Totally agree with this post. The Red Sox are going nowhere by burning out the bullpen already, and as have pro announcers pointed out, it's still freaking May.

The sooner the entire Big Three is up taking its lumps, the sooner they'll adapt to become productive members of the next core.

He's tied for 3rd most errors among AL 3B and has a .966 fielding %

And you think these are the only fielding numbers that matter?

Exactly nowhere did I state that. You might want to sharpen up on your reading comprehension.

The point is that he wasn't having a great season in the field.
