Our sensational rookie catcher, Carlos Narvaez (have I thanked the Yankees enough?) is batting clean up today. Kudos to Cora. He owes our slumping hitters NOTHING. Go with the hot hand.

I approve this move.

Zach Eflin, today's game 1 starting pitcher, gave up 10 hits and 8 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his last outing against the Nationals.

Very Random thought. The draft board on this site shows us picking a left handed batting shortstop with the 1st pick. Another lefty? Are we serious?

In the MLB draft you just take the best player available. They are years away from MLB usually and roster will be different then. If he needs up being elite and we have too many SS or LHH, he’ll either be good enough to play regardless or be a nice trade chip.

Most credit for Narvaez has to go to Breslow.  Ditto for Crochet and of course Bregman and maybe even Chapman.

I agree completely with "owes our slumping hitters NOTHING."

sorry but we need to continue to build up our minor league pitching depth. take the best college P available.  we have plenty of infield prospects.

That just isn’t smart. This isn’t the NFL where you pass up a great QB because you have Patrick Mahomes. The guy you are drafting might not make an impact for literal years, and teams rosters can change a lot by then.

Also true.  You pick the best players.  As it turns out, the Sox ain't the best at picking or developing pitchers--and never have been.

Come on man.

1.  it’s a mock draft, not the Sox board.

2. By the time this guy reaches the majors the team needs could be completely different.  You have no idea what the roster could look like in 4 years.

3. Said player could be traded.  Just like Montgomery was traded for Crochet.  It’s why you go BPA.

The sox continue the burial of Yoshi, now moved to the 60 day IL.   predictable in the general sense that there is no role for him in the current lineup.

I did see a note that after his cortisone shot in the shoulder that he had to reset his throwing program back to 60 feet . If accurate he may have legitimate issues with his shoulder that were not corrected by the surgery.

In any case, a dead money contract .  The legacy of Bloom lives on.

You take the best player available. Everytime all the time.

you can always trade for pitching e.g. Crochet/Sale

If it was a fake injury the players association would be up in arms over the Sox FO. at this point.

If there was a front line, college experienced pitcher , starter or reliever,  I would think they could pitch in AA/AAA their first year, then come up during their 2nd year.

Position players usually do require more time to develop.     If you are going to wait on a pitcher to develop 3 new pitches , then you may be wasting too much time.    Let them just reach back and throw , you know, like Bello

Assuming both games today are played  to a conclusion,     be aware that there is no way the Red Sox can finish the day 1 over .500 nor 1 under .500.

So it is a big day to establish momentum or repudiate the concept.

It's still a bit early , but almost time to say that Connor Wong got Wally Pipp'ed by Narvaez .

That has been the outcome from  Wong's interference resulting in a pinkie fracture.

I don’t think all your posts are lame.  I just disagree with that one you made

Dobbins pulled after throwing 66 pitches last time out in 4 2/3 innings.

He's up to 67 pitches after 4 innings today. Lets leave him in there.

Marcelo Mayer on his way.......best news today.

Is that official now ?   I heard a quick blurb that Bregman's quad needs MRI.  Not looking good . True, Si o No ?

Not sure why, but had hopes that Dobbins might break through and bee a starter that could exceed 4+- innings.

Instead he leaves a mess on base with no outs in the top 5th , bringing in Newcomb.   If he works out of this one with a run scoring DP , I guess that's success

So the run scores but couldn't turn the DP.

Newcomb is pitiful , about to let this game get out of hand.

Sox haven't hit much after Abreu's HR

A lot of us are being distracted by Mayer and Anthony while the real elephant in the room is the starting pitching.

You are very correct on this one to the point it is not sustainable to have every game become a "bullpen game".
