Sure; but the Giants, who are very good at evaluating catcher talent liked him. I just don’t see anything about him that’s positive.

If they like him, they would have kept him.

moon i still feel this team should be better than what their record has been to this point. I thought their starting pitching would be very good.

I think our team looks better on paper than we have played. Maybe returning players from injury will help, but I'm tired of counting on that year after year, and besides, Dobbins, Fitts and Newcomb have done better than Buehler and Houck, so expecting Bello & Gio to improve on them is difficult to swallow.

Hendriks might come around, and moving bumped starters to the pen should happen soon, so maybe there is hope.

The way we are playing, now, I do not get good vibes. I felt better, last year, at this time.

I'm not losing my optimism, but this game was winnable, and we keep finding ways to hand them away.

You begin to see trends as to how teams wind up as .500 teams.

BP issues, inconsistent hitting  , fielding errors, baserunning mistakes , giveaway losses at home .     Not just about today, but just seeing trends.

Maybe Grandal will give us a boost, but I agree.

I guess he can’t be worse than Sabol, but I wouldn’t hold my breath hoping a 36 year old catcher with no other offers helps us

There is a chance he does well, but I agree.

Hoping on Wong's return is no pleasant dream, either.

One trend remains the same: the Red Sox have burnt out their bullpens in every first half since the Matt Barnes days.

Make no mistake, they chose to go into this bridge year by signing Old Man Chapman and Old Man Wilson, and counting on healthy returns from Old Man Hendriks and Young Man Whitlock.

Chappy, Whit and Slaten have been good so far, but no club serious about making a World Series run just rolls the dice on its bullpen.

The starting pitching depth has already been depleted, and as a result taxed the only three relievers Cora seems to trust on games that have to be won.

Hopefully Brez and Bailey will be able to develop or acquire other reliables soon, because calling up fresh arms and sending them down the next day is already too big a trend three weeks into the season.

Having 8 man pens help out a little, and I'm thinking we are getting further along in the season, where starts will start going one more inning.

It doesn't help that we have been using out 8-9-10 depth starters, but they have pitched well- just not 6-7 IP. When Bello and Gio return, we wont be seeing 7 IP games from them, too, so we need Crochet, Buehler and Houck to start going longer into games.

I wish we had added one more solid pen arm, but we did spend way more than I expected, and thankfully some on rotation depth and front line starters.

The old man Chapman and Wilson signings, along with the Hendriks deal from last year, have become the standard fall back on decent pen additions.

OK.  TOTALLY my fault for screwing up the game thread.  I just ... I just ... well, you know, thinking of bunnies and raptures then all that 420 stuff ...  I just lost focus!   I'm off until the next losing streak, which I hope does not start today.

You did an admirable job, Jad, getting the team over .500.  They were smoking 420's after the 2nd inning and also  in the BP too, thinking this one was a lock.

No game thread up for tomorrow yet, and since the game is so early I’ll post this here:

After 18 months away, tomorrow I make my grand return to Fenway. At this time a year ago, I didn’t think I would be back for quite a while. Everything that happened to me in Boston that caused me to move away still hurt too much, and I didn’t think I could bear the memories that came with being back in the city. But here I am. I’m ready, and I cannot wait.

Some of you probably remember that the Red Sox are on quite the winning streak when I attend the game in person. I believe it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-15 wins in a row that I have seen, dating back to the start of the 2023 season. In addition to tomorrow, I will be in Cleveland on Saturday. I will also be following the team out west to Seattle and SF in June, seeing all 6 games in those cities. I also intend to be in DC for the 4th of July and perhaps Wrigley as well a few weeks after.

in other words, if my win streak lasts through all of that, and if we make the playoffs, I figure I should make my way back to Boston for that as well.

You shoulda just posted it right after Saturday's game.
