Exhibit A for there being too many baseball podcasts.

I hardly listen to any, except the soxprospects.com one and some random ones, here and there.

On attendance from '22 to '23, our increase of 581 people per game ranked 21st, so we are not doing all that great. The small park does limit the amount we can increase.

PHI went up 6.6K, CIN 7.9 and BAL 7.0. Our park could not hold such an increase.

Sure looks like the Sox ownership has no idea of fielding a competitive product in 2024. It certainly could lead to a sale soon.

One can hope.

They have room to grow as they should be up to 36k a night rather than 32k post COVID. However, the product on the field looks like they are playing with COVID.

What if they sell to an owner like Pittsburgh's?

Whoever buys the Sox would have to be loaded to afford the purchase. What newer franchise was purchased and then cheapened out on?

Agreed. My point was, it will be hard for us to ever go up as much as some teams can, due to park size differences.

Hardly any teams spend less than before, consistently.

The Astros did from 2011 to about 2016-2017.

The Brave, a little bit, for a little while, after they were sold.

I'm not saying it happens, often, and we might not end up being like PIT, but the new owner could spend less or the same as JH, right?

Exactly. Moon keeps saying careful what you wish for when someone brings up JH selling the team. I think at this point most fans would take that chance this second. I don’t think someone would pay as much as it would take to buy the Red Sox, and then don’t put money back into the team.

well....that's where we're headed at our current pace.

I'm not happy with the direction of our budget, but let's not pretend JH has been anywhere near like some other owners.

In the last 2 years, alone...

1. signed Devers to the largest contract in Red Sox history by over $80M!

2. signed Story to the 4th largest AAV in Red Sox history and to 6 years, a length not often given by him. (only 5 players at 6+ Devers, Price, AGon, CC, Story)

3. signed Yoshida and paid a fee that put the total cost over $100M, which I believe is top 10 in Red Sox history of money spent on one contract period.

That's not "headed towards Pittsburgh."

Final CBT Numbers since 2012: in 100Ms

178 (Ben takes charge)

178 (2013 ring)

186

199

204 (DD begins)

192

239 (2018 ring)

244

185 (Bloom begins- prorated for covid season)

208

236

(at 225, now, per cots) Breslo begins

I’m not giving JH any credit for signing Raffy at all. I think he had to more than he wanted to especially after Mookie, and Bogey.

It's part of the reason tickets are expensive and why they should build a new stadium that has more seats.

This team won because of Theo's legacy first and foremost. Of course it was the ownership group that ran him off!

The commish and his bosses will make sure to only approve a new buyer committed to restoring the Red Sox to MLB flagship status, because Boston's popularity tied to its success means more money in all their pockets. There was some controversy the last time the Sox were sold connected to such a notion.

Like JH said on F&M that LL ran the Red Sox.

Using "4th largest contract in history" is embarrassing as it ignores contract inflation across the league. Rob Refnsyder will make more in his career than Carl Yastrzemski.

Last year: 12th in luxury tax payroll.

This year: probably going to be worse.

MIDMARKET TEAM.

Nor should you.

The controversy last time was that they selected Henry over McCourt. Talk about a bullet being dodged. McCourt should have never been given the Dodgers.

How would you feel about the Saudi's owning the team? Or a hedge fund?

Exactly! Talking about contract history like every era, and every player was equal. Wow!

FSG is involved with the Saudis now in their golf deal, so it's not out of the question the Saudis become part of the ownership of the Red Sox. :P

Has Henry touched the orb?

Which doesn't answer the question.

There's only so many people/companies/organisations/states that can afford/would buy the Sox. A great many of them you really wouldn't want in ownership.

I figured everyone knew about inflation, but I should have mentioned it.

Even with inflation, Devers is a top 2-4 signing, since and including Manny. (Manny, Price... AGon?)

Story is still likely a top 10 signing, maybe top 12.

Okay, Yoshida might fall to 20th or 25th, if you go back to 2000. (I'm not doing the math from that far back.)

People point to our spending ranking to prove we are spending way less. IMO, much of that is because other teams are spending way more.

Do the math, how much is our CBT number of $236M in 2022 compared to $192 in 2017? $178 in 2013?

Even if it's less, I doubt we are looking like we are on a path to Pittsburgh.

(BTW, I wrote $225 as Breslow's first year. It was 2023 and Bloom's final year. My bad.)
