And of course it remains to be seen how perfect Yamamoto was.

Personally I think his contract is the riskiest in history.

and don't forget, he's going to suck his first season due to the language and culture barrier.

Lowrie was in a movie (or portrayed in a movie).

Romero is the Mondesi of the minors.

Lowrie didn’t have his MLb debut until 24. Romero has time if his skeleton doesn’t hop out of his mouth this Halloween.

Benintendi had a lot of promise, but it all kind of went away after 2018. He's a bad defender with no power. It's not really the same archetype.

Also, they got Freddy Valdez (released), Luis De La Rosa (released) and Grant Gambrell!

another great Red Sox 1st rd pick

Why so harsh. We can always count on our favorite organization to recruit the best player unavailable.

“Guys, we’re totally going to wine and dine Soto until you all get blue balls and then not give him an offer at all.”

I can't believe it is opening day.

I can't really say hope springs eternal, but I do think we will see a lot of fun plays and games.

A big chunk of our core is still pre-prime or in the early years of prime. There is room for improvement for almost everyone. (ALMOST)

Pre-Prime

24 Casas

24 Bello

25 Wink

23 Rafaela

24 Abreu

26 Campbell

26 Slaten

Early Prime

27 Crawford

27 Whitlock

27 Houck

27 Duran

27 Wong

27 E Valdez

Prime

28 O'Neill

29 McGuire

29 Weissert

30 Yoshida

Back-end of Prime

31 Story

31 Pivetta

30 Reyes

The list of post prime is very small

36 Jansen

37 Martin (seems to be improving with age)

33 Refsnyder

Lots of good potential developments and one huge question: how in the hell is this rotation going to hold up over 162 games. They signed the innings eater they needed, but he gone.

My guess is they'll grab whatever guys run through the waiver wire if they just need innings and are placed in the standings where we expect them to be.

I'll be surprised, if we get 132 GS from our opening day 5 man rotation. Hell, 122 might be asking too much.

With Murphy and Walter gone, we may end up yanking Wink from the pen for starts, but maybe it will be Chase, first. Criswell looks to be the 2nd or 3rd man in line. If we go deeper than 8, it's a dice roll on who #9 might be.

Uwasawa?

Gambrell?

Fitts (not on 40?)

Wikelman (late season?)

Uwasawa is really only here for extreme emergency only. Maybe he can figure it out, but has looked dreadful so far.

Gambrell could certainly do what the 2006 fill-ins did for a few weeks.

Fitts needs to work on his secondary stuff before he's called up for anything more than a relief role.

Not sure about Wikelman timetable. We've seen guys like Abe Alvarez make a quick jump though.

So, basically, at least for the first few months, our depth is just...

Chase

Wink

Gambrell

I don’t get why they ignored the cheaper options sitting out there like Lorenzen, Lauer, etc…

Have to keep the lanes open.

If you’re being blocked by a guy who had to settle for a minor league deal from Pittsburgh, you’ll need more than just an open lane…

Like I stated earlier that the Red Sox are paying out $40M this year to JT, Sale, and Gio. Think that doesn’t have anything to do with adding more payroll?

This is the absurd part of their so-called "plan."

It's not like Gambrell, Fitts and Van Belle are banging down the MLB door, anytime soon.

I mean Chase & Uwa? OMG!

Wink needs to stay in the pen, after it was robbed of Whit, Houck and Pivetta.

The 'experts' at MLB Tonight have made their predictions for the 2024 season. They gave the SOX a 5% chance of making the PS. Some here will say that's too high. They also predicted the SOX will finish with a W/L record of 73-89.

Oh, they may try to bring up Uwasawa, but it would be a hold your nose option unless the org can straighten out what was going wrong in ST.

He could be a Barraclough/Dermody/Lamet one appearance guy.

Only Whit was robbed from the pen. Pivetta, and Houck was going to be in the rotation anyway. Whit took Gio’s place.

I'm too computer illiterate to set up an over/under poll using 78.5 wins as the benchmark. Might be interesting to have that poll set up.

Still taking the over
