How many people here have actually seen Sandlin pitch?

Even if we saw him pitch 10 times, would that matter much?

Never saw him pitch, but in high school I used to face this kid named Sanders. He wasn't very good, so that doesn't bode well for Sandlin...

It would make sense for part of the hype train that I'm starting to see?

Was this slow pitch softball in VT?

I appreciate when posters make comments about players they went and saw play for a game or more, but we are not trained scouts, that I know of.

That being said, I'm kinda high on Campbell, Slaten & Sandlin.

Weissert, Judice and some others may surprise.

While Criswell is not a prospects, he has less than 38 IP in MLB, so maybe counting this 27 year old in the acquisition mix is possible.

Double agent!

Or we take advantage of his constant search for undervalued talent by dealing him a minor league with little to no value..

I'm not so sure any of these guys would have rocked it with other systems, but certainly they had no favors done for them.

I think our pitching selection decisions are half the issue.

We just have to hang in there for John Henry's deathbed memoirs...

Oh, he might bust ... but it's the sort of the deal the team has to make it they don't want to draft younger pitching. I think it was good process - hopefully the eval of the player is correct.

Now that spring training has ended, here's my 2 cents worth regarding the regular season. I believe offensively the SOX are good. I believe defensively the SOX are good. I believe bullpensively the SOX are good. Of course, the elephant in the room is the starting pitching. The lack of depth of starters is also a major concern.

If, and this is a big IF, the SOX SP overachieves, which is possible, I believe they can contend for a PO spot.

One thing in the SOX favor is there's no pressure, because most baseball 'experts' have predicted them to finish last.

This long opening season west coast road trip will be a big test. If they return to Fenway at around .500, I would be thrilled.

Btw, the way the SOX finished in their last 3 spring season games was a good way to jump into the season on Thursday.

The pen looks good, but we pulled Pivetta, Whitlock and Crawford to the rotation. Together, they had about 100 IP in the pen, last year. Losing over 90 IP from Schreiber and Murphy might be hard to replace, too, but more IP will or should be replaced from these guys:

Over 200 IP

5.28 Bleier 31 IP

5.46 Llovera 30

4.26 Jacques 25 (still in system)

7.29 Brasier 21

6.27 Ort 20

6.23 Garza 17

9.45 Kluber 13

6.55 Robertson 11

2.08 Weiss 9

12.91 Bearclaw 8

2.70 Sheriff 7

9.00 Littell 3

6.75 Scott 3

13.50 Lamet 2

22.50 Faria 2

As for the SP'er depth, it looks like...

6. Chase Anderson (in pen, now)

7. Winckowski (in pen, now)

8. Criswell (AAA)

9. Fitts (AAA, not on 40)

10. Gambrell (AAA, not on 40)

11. Wikelman (AA)

There is some promise there, but it's hard to get optimistic about it.

One year $25mill. A far cry from seven and a dumb move by Montgomery…

1 yr/$25M, and a player option. BorASS isn’t making out as good as he thought before all this FA stuff began.

Our nightmare is over.

Only $7M more than Gio, but I’m sure he wouldn’t have signed for that back when Gio was signed.

Well according to you if we signed Montgomery months ago we would have paid a lot less for him. Of course….we are paying much less for him now. $0!!!

That’s funny, because I said he wasn’t worth the money he was projected to get before FA started, and I don’t think he worth the money he’ll get now especially since you won’t get a full year out of him. I had said that there was a need for starting pitching, and he was available is why he would get the money in the first place, and even then he would help the Red Sox.

Now do Snell.

Do Snell for what? The Red Sox are paying $10M more to Gio, and Atlanta for Sale than the D Backs are paying for Monty.

Irrelevant, I suppose you forgot our conversation at the start of free agency that the Sox needed to sign starting pitch soon because if they waited the prices would go higher.

Irrelevant to you, because I said before FA even started that the Red Sox would not be signing any top money FA pitchers, and now I can sleep good tonight knowing that Snell, and Monty have finally found a home to go to.👏
