Well, that's a bit of a leap. Maybe Moto wants to play in Boston. If not there's Snell, Montgomery etc.

Snell and Montgomery will sign after to hope their $$$ goes up.

I'm convinced that the only way we get Moto is if he decides he prefers Boston. If he wants to play in NY, we might as well forget it.

Probably right, unless BOS offers more money, and it's enough to sway him away from NY.

At least WM is a decent fielder.

I'm ok with it. wish it was more than link to him. There is work left to do but this would help an are of need.

His DRS numbers the past two years have not been great. He had one very good DRS season in 2014 +14, but is only +8 for his career. OAA treats him a little more favorably for whatever reason.

I only looked at OAA, which had him at +4 in 2023 and +13 from '21-'23.

The more I see how the division is shaping the more I see another ugly last place next year.

Seems like the Jays are adding Ohtani.

Come ON, have a little optimism. Sox will still be the fifth-best AL East team!

Snell and Montgomery are both Boras ' clients. They will be expensive too.

Unless Boras has a “2 for 1” special…

Defensive metrics are not infallible. OAA and DRS can definitely vary for certain players. I've seen some players have bad OAA/DRS and good UZR/150's. I think you have to look at the whole picture. It probably means he's just an average 2B, which is a HUGE upgrade from the garbage men the Sox put out there last season.

I'd like Snell more if he pitch a few more innings in more than just 2 seasons.

As of now, those reports are premature.

This usually means the free agent has made a decision, but then later found out his new team still has money

It's a done deal. He's on a private plane on his way to Toronto. He wanted it to be some big secret, but how can it be when the contract is going to be 450M+?!?

Nola could be argued took less.

Yes, though you figure the 7 years is one of those "let's slide under the luxury" tax sort of business.

Yeah. Now what I will say for OAA is that it is coming from a better dataset (Statcast tracking) then we've had in the past. You are right - gotta look at the big picture on the metrics, but OAA is working from a better starting point.

He's also getting older, so if he was a bit plus, he might be average, next year, which like you said, is still a big plus.

Add that to the possible big plus at SS, if Story stays healthy and CF, if Rafaela plays there, a lot, and our team D could jump up in '24.

As far as I’m concerned, the deal is not official until MLBTR says so…

Was the Lackey signing good, bad or somewhere in between? That's a discussion in itself. Might have been no ring in '13 without him.

Kind of a shrug emoji ... his arm fell off ... when it didn't he was good, if not a staff ace. He was also a workhorse when his arm was attached to his body.

Sox acquire Tyler O'Neill!

RH'd bat, but he plays LF.

He had 34 HRs and a .352 OBP back in '21, but since then...

626 PAs in 2 seasons

.229 23 79

.310 OBP

.397 SLG

.707 OPS (97 OPS+)

This will be his last Arb year with an estimated $5.4M. He’s a cheaper option than Duvall.

I'm not sure how good Duvall would be in RF, but O'Neill looks like a straight LF'er. I'm not sure why Sox GMs seem to want four LF'ers on the 26, every year.

2857 innings in LF

304 in CF

152 in RF

I get the idea of moving Yoshida to DH, full time, but does this mean Duran plays RF (or CF?)

If O'Neil can return to 2021 levels, it's a steal, no matter where we play him. He turns 29, next summer.

I wonder, if Duran will be traded, now.

LF was also the best position for the RH'd platoon bat, Refsnyder, who has been one of MLB's best batters vs lefties since 2022. Will he b e traded, now?
