I think I'd rather have Castillo.

I wanted him when SEA traded for him.

I guess he has a no trade clause, but I'd kick the tires on him.

These one year and done pitchers scare the bejesus out of me.

I can't see Seattle trading Castillo. That was a big trade they made for him, he signed a reasonable contract, and he had another solid season. He's been consistent and durable. If that isn't a guy you keep, you're probably in tank mode.

So would the Mariners but Luis Castillo could help Seattle land a productive bat (when free agent hitters are reluctant to sign with the M's).

I will defer to your Mariners expertise on this.

BTV gives Castillo roughly the same value as Kyle Teel. Probably fair, but would Seattle even be interested?

In the unlikely event Luis Castillo is traded, Seattle would want an immediate impact bat with multiple years of team control.

Kyle Teel's highest value comes at catcher where the Mariners have four more years of 27-year-old Cal Raleigh, who this year ranked third among all catchers with 4.7 fWAR (and third over the past two seasons at 8.8 fWAR).

They probably would not want Duran, despite the higher BTV score.

Duran, EValdez and the best non 40 man pitcher in our system you want for Castillo.

FanGraphs and Steamer project 27-year-old Jarren Duran with 2024 wRC+ and WAR of 98 and 1.3 in 128 games:

Duran this year finally posted a productive partial season after posting a negative 0.4 in each of the previous two years.

Seattle is unlikely to have interest.

I disagree.

I'm just not sure they "want him" that much.

His WAR will get bigger if Seattle plays him in more games…

It's happening! The Red Sox reportedly are meeting with Yamamoto!

They might have to shell out a 300m dollar contract to bring him home to Boston, but I say do it, just don't let him leave town!

Also you have a fellow japanese player in Yoshida, leverage him to convince Yamamoto to sign on the dotted line!

The stars are lined up... can Breslow get the job done in possibly his biggest move of his early tenure with the Red Sox?

Speaking of Fangraphs here's what they had to say about Yamamoto:

Team Rank: N/A Overall Rank: 2 ETA: 2024

Fastball Slider Curveball Splitter Cutter Command FV

60 / 60 45 / 55 60 / 60 70 / 70 45 / 50 80 / 80 65

Prospects TLDR: Elite command and a deep, well-rounded repertoire drive Yamamoto's top-of-the-rotation profile. He's a ROY and Cy Young threat.

I really hope we get this guy now that we're talking to him and his agent.

could be good for us. May take LA out of the Yamamoto sweepstakes now

Like how Ohtani took them out of the Glasnow sweepstakes?

That's true. It's like when you've had nothing but salisbury 'faux' steak for years and now you have a chance to get the filet mignon!

Seriously the Red Sox need a top of the rotation pitcher in a bad way and here comes Yamamoto in his prime age 25 to offer us a solution.

Remember when it was fun to watch a Red Sox "Ace" pitcher and you knew that on those days you pretty much had the win in the bag because he was going to dominate the opposing lineup? I remember those days, it was a long time ago but they existed.

The other Japanese pitcher, imanaga should be where we are looking. His stuff is excellent, and the market not as fierce. Best to try to lock him up before the other losers of the Yamamoto lottery cone after him

Sounds good, in theory, but why wouldn’t he wait?

We’d have to be blowing others away with an offer for him to jump the Yamo signing.

Chaim would make him a Yoshida he couldn't refuse...

But regarding the Yamamoto meetings, smoke needs some editing when it comes to celestial bodies:

In LA, stars are always aligned. In Boston in the early 2020s, the asteroids are maligned.

If John Henry did have a christmas grinch like moment and his balls grew back ten times their size and he rememebed they are the Boston Red SOX then I find it very encouraging that the Sox stratetically planned on meeting with Yamamoto last.

Going last puts pressure on making a presentation that beats everyone else's. Maybe not just the money, but pulling out all the stops to make the player feel like he is the top priority.

They have to match or exceed the one that has impressed him, before coming to meet with BOS. I hope we are up to the task.
