6 Reasons Why Yamamoto's Stock Is Rising...

Only one pitcher in MLB history has signed a contract larger than $245 million. Gerrit Cole eclipsed that number and set a record for pitchers when he inked a nine-year, $324 million deal with the Yankees in 2019, just days after Stephen Strasburg signed a seven-year, $245 million contract with

I’ll take the under on Imanaga there.

One thing to keep in mind is Ohtani might not be the market setter. Aaron Nola (7yr/$172mill) is just as relevant.

I can see Yamamoto and (maybe) Snell exceeding his deal. Montgomery? Certainly in the neighborhood. It’s tough to see Imanaga in that neighborhood given that he has no MLB track record and simply is not as young as Yamamoto. Plus apparently several talking heads see him as a reliever at some point. (No idea if scouts or MLB execs do, but unlike me some of these talking heads have actually seen him pitch.)

I think many see the Nola signing as a team-friendly deal.

Have you compared the two?

Last 3 years

Montgomery 10.2 fWAR / 9.2 bWAR

Musgrove 8.8 fWAR / 5.0 bWAR

Plus free agency vs contract extension…

The only thing that shocked me about the Price deal was they signed him after they wouldn’t pay Lester.

John Henry changes his mind on a regular basis.

Classic flip flopper behavior. I think that's the problem with having too many cooks in the kitchen the way the Sox FO does.

The age is why I don't think Imanaga gets more than a 4/5 year deal.

Sounds right.

That fits the Sox strategy more. 5 not 7.

Sox talked to Mariners about a trade for one of their pitchers, but Mariners weren't interested.

I can understand any GM not valuing Duran all that highly.

I doubt we offered Mayer and Duran or Rafaela, but I would think that might draw interest, as a starting point.

What strategy?

If anyone on here actually knows what their strategy really is for fielding the 26 man roster, I'd like to hear it.

If you're the Mariners, you probably don't need an injured Mayer, but would be interested in Anthony and Teel. My guess is one of the big requirements would be a trading partner that has young pitching. Alas....

I hate to quote GW, but it's a "stragedy."

The thing is, all but Castillo are young pitchers they are thinking about trading.

I'm wondering why they don't shop Castillo, instead.

Mets Sign Cam Robinson To Minor League Deal

Damn, Cohen must be out on Yamamoto, Monty, Imanaga and Snell!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are supposedly trying to cut payroll, but that would have been to sign someone, right? I think Castillo is the payroll you keep around and trim on the edges.

I haven't heard that Imanaga will wind up as a reliever.

So far it seems to be more the MLB Network guys like CJ Nitkowski and Brad Lidge. I haven’t seen actual scouts or execs say it anywhere.

I don’t know a thing about the guy myself…

I really like Castillo, but if you want to cut payroll, why trade great young arms like Gilbert or Kirby?

They were trading other players to cut payroll, not Kirby and Gilbert.

MLB Network guys aren't the most reliable sources from what I've found. Maybe they just looked at his velo and said "oh, he doesn't throw mid 90's so he's less than and needs to go to the pen."

Like Miller or Woo, who are even younger?

The trade talk was about SP'ers.

No Mayer for Miller, of course.

Maybe.

I just put what they said out there with citations. attach credibility as you see fit…

The Mariners might consider trading Luis Castillo to free up payroll to sign free agent lefthander Blake Snell, the Seattle native who reportedly wants to return home.

Castillo has a no-trade clause.

Strange way to cut salary.

I think I'd rather have Castillo.
