Just to be clear, $225 for Moto will also mean a $35 million posting fee, and he's reportedly being offered 2 opt outs.

Yup.

I'd try to bring the AAV down by going 8-9 years.

I'm not sure he's the right guy to take the plunge on, but I'm not sure how much longer we can wait and play the patchwork game.

You don’t? Despite that he just was one less than two months ago?

no I dont . he is 31 and will get at least a 6 year contract at huge dollars. I think is a solid #3 on a good team and maybe a #2 for the 1st yr or 2 of his del. Hard pass for me.

Id tank him most likely to land in Boston.

I think zero chance we sign Yamamoto. The Mets want him. And Henry cannot outspend Cohen, no matter how hard he tries.

That leaves Snell, Montgomery, ERod, and Stroman. Pros and cons to each. But only one has a connection to Boston right now (and that connection could just as easily drive him away)…

In this case I don't think it's a question of who has more money. Moto won't get more than $300 mill no matter what, and the Red Sox have the money.

In this case I think it's a question of which one has more tolerance for risk.

And who knows, maybe Moto will just decide where he'd like to play, at least until that first opt-out kicks in...

We have Yoshida and he is best buddies with Yamamoto

Stroman should NOT be an option for the Sox.

It’s not going to happen. Yamamoto isn’t going to go through the posting process and didn’t hire an agent so he could hook up with his friends…

Snell and Montgomery are known commodities. You pretty much know what you are getting. Yamamoto is more of a gamble. He might be better than either of those guys or he could be a colossal bust. Is Breslow a gambler ?

Why not?

He thinks he's a headcase.

He would not be the first pitcher like that, and some are damn good.

I don't really put Stroman in the same class as Yam, Snell and Monty.

I put him in the next tier with ERod and maybe 1-2 others.

My order might look like this:

(Assuming Kershaw to LAD.)

1. Yamo

2. Monty

3. Snell

4. Imanaga

5. Erod

6. Stroman

7. Lugo

8. Wacha

Some 4/5, which we don't need:

Paxton, Giolito, Flaherty, Clevinger, Mahle, YRod, Lorenzen

Montas. Severino

You vastly underrate Clevinger and overrate Lugo…

Clevinger has a bit of a "bad vibe" discount factor being applied, it seems...

If so, that’s understandable. Sort of a Bauer Factor…

Give him the contract and let him opt out. They still need a TOTR starter. Snell has a QO attachment and I don't like his profile. Montgomery doesn't have the QO, but also doesn't have ace upside. Of those three, it's gotta be Yamamoto regardless of the opt outs.

A lot of projections have ERod coming back home to BOS. Fine?

The connection of his wife going to med school in Boston seems like it should help. But I also think trying to attend medical school while being known as the wife of a Red Sox pitcher might be a distraction she prefers he not create for her…

She's not in medical school, she's doing her residency.

Bottom line being she might prefer being something other than the “wife of that Sox pitcher” while doing out…
