I'm fully aware. I am surprised he isn't pushing a long term deal with a 2 year out clause. That is what I would do. Get the security of the long deal but the chance to opt out after a first full season healthy on the mound

If a team gives him $500 mill guaranteed AND an opt-out, it'll definitely set a new standard for lunacy.

300 with opt out?

"Red Sox pivot from Ohtani". So what happened? Was it:

a) Ohtani's team let the Red Sox know that Boston was not a preferred destination.

B) Ohtani's team let the Red Sox know that in spite of the TJ surgery, half a billion is still the minimum bid.

c) Ohtani's team found him a New Balance store on the West Coast.

Agreed.

With 2 TJs, the team should get the opt out!

So now that there are no looming lockouts and pandemics, have we returned to the 2018/2019 Snail’s Pace Boring Off-Seasons?

If you fear the two TJs, you’re clearly not going to give him the best deal anyway. Report Boston has already moved on…

Pretty boring so far, but there have to be some fireworks coming soon.

I never thought we'd be serious contenders for him, even if we knew we'd go up to the second tax line.

That would be about $72M.

$287M AAV SP1

$25M AAV SP2

$12M 2B or OF (Big RHB)

$8M OF or 2B

Apparently, the Mets have made Yamo their top focus. That could leave Snell and Monty for the Rangers, Yanks, Sox and others to fight over.

MLB FA is a total joke. All the other major sports have a flurry of excitement on day 1 of FA. FA for MLB should not even start until Dec 1st as nothing ever happens before the up-coming winter meetings !! Yawn..........

the Sox should not and are not in Ohtani. They need a #1 and 2 SP or they are looking at another 5th place finish in 2024. PERIOD !!

A Red Sox vlogger humored Seattle fans with a trade proposal:

This guy keeps a straight face!

Add Crawford and SEA still says no.

New York radio guy says 7 years and 220 is on the table. With 2 out clauses

The team that signs him is really gonna have to Ben Dover.

It’s 2018-19 all over again…

Most of us were fat and happy that offseason, though, and little suspecting the horrors to come.

Well, I’m referring to 2 years and two off-seasons, both which moved appallingly slow…

It seems to have become a trend.

Maybe we need another looming lockout?

that will not be enough to get it done

Probably getting close though - 220 mill, + a 33 mill posting fee, + 2 opt outs, is an enormously risky contract to hand out.

Agreed and I don't see Henry bucking up for it either. BTW Montgomery doesn't thrill me either given the contract he is likely to get. I really don't consider him #1 or 2 SP on a top team. Snell is the only FA SP left that I would consider as a #1 or 2. Sox will probably go the trade route or the mid level SP FA route.

You don’t? Despite that he just was one less than two months ago?

I'd prefer giving $225/7 to the 25 year old Yamo than $165M/6 to Monty or $185M/7 to Snell.

Just to be clear, $225 for Moto will also mean a $35 million posting fee, and he's reportedly being offered 2 opt outs.

This off-season is putting even Talksox to sleep.

MLB needs to do what the NBA and NFL do and have signing periods. Should be from the day after the WS until December 31st.
