Clevinger also has multiple accusers. No way it doesn't become a PR problem. We saw what happened with Dermody, and his issues were all about tweets.

If Dermody was good at baseball, he might have been given a pass.

He's not a top of the rotation guy, but Clevinger pushes Houck to the bullpen for sure. He had 10 QS last year and a 3.40 ERA if you ignore his very last start. Aside from 3 bad starts, he had a strong 2023.

That's the biggest plus about adding Clev and or Paxton. Maybe July trade value, as well.

Ah yes, the old "back to the police blotter" routine. But let's go big. I hear Franco is now out on bail.

Maybe we can sign urias before his trial.

Clevinger is more likely to be healthy than Paxton. Paxton just doesn't have the personal baggage. I really haven't paid close enough attention to the Clevinger story though.

He may not be able to enter the country again, but the Sox wouldn't have to pay him!

If Clev is okay, we might as well take a flyer on Bauer.

One guy was suspended for a long, long time. The other wasn't suspended for a day. It's totally the same thing!

If you look at things cosmically…

So you’re saying he is available for road games in Toronto?

True. Hader had a Twitter scandal, but he throws hard enough for people to look past it…

John Heyman has said the Sox are in on Soler but the suspicion is we will be outbid again. So put it in the books. He's a Sox player.

Also the worst option for that Sox on the entire free agent market…

Hader was tarred by his own words. He wondered if he needed to further apologize.

Hader looked at a Brewers employee here for the All-Star Game and said: “Should I tweet anything out?”

That's the good stuff right there.

I'd rather they grab Hoskins who can play OF/1B too.

JonHeyman:

“Former Red Sox J.D. Martinez and Justin Turner should be candidates to fill Boston’s need for a right-handed hitter, but they may more seriously consider a less costly option like Tommy Pham, Randal Grichuk or perhaps even their old friend Kiké Hernandez.”

Clevinger was just a story that may have been nothing more than text in an AP blurb. It’s not like Domingo German and Aroldis Chapman, who have both been suspended, but still managed to get jobs afterwards. And are both looking for work today. (German might end up overseas, but I can promise you Chapman gets a deal from someone in MLB very soon.)

We’ve already tried everyone in that post except Grichuk…

Interesting thought. Hoskins hasn’t played outfield since 2018 and I’d still prefer him out there over Soler.

I don't think Clev is even on the same level as those other guys. Urias appears to be a legit abuser, Bauer may have been vindicated in the eyes of some but he had other issues, ALso, he hasnt' pitched in mLB in years. Franco, is a legit PEDO who has actually been arrested now.

Lets not put these guys all in the same boat. Maybe Urias and Franco are in the same ocean.

MLB found no wrong doing. I'm a parent, I had DCF investigate my home once, not because I did anything wrong but because my ex wifes other daughter made a comment about at school that had nothing to do with me. When s*** like that happens, they take it VERY serious, and thats a GOOD thing but sometimes good people, innocent people get looked at under the microscope for a moment. As far as I can tell Clev is a good guy.

Once Tommy Pham becomes a candidate, how far away are Garrett Cooper, Wil Myers and Trey Mancini?

If Bauer actually is innocent - something that remains possible - at this point he’s just bad PR. Most of his “other issues” seem to be that the one thing he does better than pitch is be a complete and insufferable *******, a character trait he has no issues owning.

However, it’s also perfectly legal…

For sure! I think he could fake it in LF better than Masa or Soler.

Dermody was "just bad PR" too.

Wil Myers come home!

How long have we wanted to trade for him?

They did an awful job of coaching the PR response prior to Dermody's promotion. He was already in the org. Someone should have already been aware of the tweets and a statement should have already been formed. The Red Sox believe they are good at PR, but they are kinda horrible at it.

If those are now our options I would simply pass. None of them move the needle near enough. I would probably take a flier on Paxton again on something like a 1 yr 5-7 million dollar deal since he has proven to be decent when healthy. The 2024 Sox are going nowhere anyway so we may as well stick with the options we already have and then draft another SS next June to build up our mighty farm system
