Watch them trade Yoshida for the guy to explode offensively next season and the board go "Bre-slow is an idiot! I always said they shouldn't trade the guy! The management of this team sucks, I could do better!"

I do think he'll do better, but I can't see him doing that great.

I just read an article today that the Red Sox could be in on a trade for Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease. Thoughts? Could this guy turn into a top of the rotation pitcher for us?

article: https://www.si.com/mlb/red-sox/news/red-sox-reportedly-considering-blockbuster-trade-for-superstar-pitcher-pat3

cease s a pretty good SP but hardly an ace. he was 7-9 last yr with an era in the upper 4;s. it would be a 2 yr rental only because the FO has shown they are not willing to pay for a 30 yr old SP. NO WAY do they get 1 of our top 3 prospects in return

But, haven't you heard?

IP and GS are most important, and Cease had more of both than ironman Gio. in the last 3 years.

(IMO, the CWS will get a prospect equal to one of our top 3 or even more.)

MLBTR reporting the Sox have been taking calls on Yoshida and Jansen.

What a dumb time to finally decide to sell- off.

At almost any point in the last 3 years would have been better.

I don't disagree with your point, but I would take it in a slightly different direction in that these rumors really raise the specter of serious payroll-cutting for the sake of payroll-cutting.

Yoshida is not an "expiring contract" like the "fire sale candidates" of the last two years were. Trading him with 4 years left on his contract would be a whole different deal. I'm just so suspicious right now that I can't help wondering which moves are to improve the team and which are to improve the bottom line.

True. The previous regime's inaction has resulted in the Red Sox selling low on assets now. But it looks like Breslow is trying to clean up Bloom's mess now. He seems to be getting what value he can with current assets and still working under that mandatory budget. Honestly not sure what Breslow can do with the financial handcuffs but maybe he will act smarter and/or bolder than the man he replaced.

Agreed, and I was careful not to say "firesale." I can't believe anything they say, so this talk about "freeing up budget space for a SP" could all be a further sham.

It could be as simple as they have lost total faith in Yoshida (and maybe their own scouts who gushed over him, too.) I can see trading Jansen, who has one year left and is aging.

It would not upset me, if we did actually use Yoshida's money to add a very good SP'er, but I'll believe it when I see it.

BTV accepts:

Yoshida & Jansen (+$10M cash)

to LAD for

Michael Grove (LH RP w 6 years of control)

Certainly, Yoshida is not held in high regard by most Sox fans. Jansen has 1 year left on a team in rebuild mode. Maybe we can get more for him, now, than at the deadline.

I agree, Brez has shown he much more bolder than Bloom, and he seems to be quickly trying to make a mark on this team. If he does trade these two, one could look at the list of top 4 trades and say, those were the guys who needed to go, or did not fit into the Brez type team.

Yoshida

Jansen

Verdugo

Urias

I'm really not torn up, if all 4 go, but I'd like to see some nice returns and or replacements on the roster (and budget.)

Yoshida came to Boston for his age 29 season and posted an OPS+ of 109.

Hideki Matsui came to NY for his age 29 season and posted an OPS+ of 109.

For the next 7 seasons, Matsui would post an OPS+ of 126. Did anyone see that coming after Godzilla’s first uninspiring year?

They're not apples to oranges, but they are a prehistoric reptilian monster (awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation) to a body by plastic dumbbells.

Just a reminder that pitchers and catchers report in 39 days.

Soon the season will begin and there will be absolutely nothing to fight about.

I think something big will be happening soon. Waiting just before Winter Weekend to make their move, and then they’ll have a good conversation piece instead of what’s being said now.

Nothing to fight about - yeah right!

And I have this weird feeling that nothing big is going to happen.

If your right it will be a worse Winter Weekend than last year, and that was pretty bad.

In that case I wouldn't be surprised if Henry skips it altogether. And if Breslow tries to explain that there's still lots of time and possibilities, they've been trying their asses off, and other teams aren't doing that much either.

JH doesn’t have Bloom to take some of the heat off him this year, so I’d be shocked if he does show up if nothing else has happened between now, and then to make the ball club better. It will be very interesting to see what whoever shows up puts out there for a spin on things.

Of course Breslow is going to say all that. Why wouldn’t he? It’s not even a lie…

OK, you hit it out of the park with this comp.

To me this is all coming down to one simple question now: what the f*** is the budget they've given Breslow for 2024? I'm fixated on that point now. And I'm paranoid as hell, as I know is obvious from my posts. I've completely lost my trust in ownership and their "will", as mvp calls it.

It's nothing about Breslow, from the looks of it he's making some intelligent moves.

Other teams are not losing last place in the Div teams, and don’t have as much work to do either.🙈🤭. THAT’S not a lie.

The thing I don’t get if the budget is so tight, and the Red Sox are just going to putter around why spend $19M on Gio?

Even with the $19 mill on Giolito, Breslow's other moves, especially trading Sale and Verdugo, pretty much offset that cost. And by today's standards Giolito's contract is dirt cheap.

And that’s the story you’d tell if you were in his place as opposed to the first one, right?

If anyone is truly confident the Sox are going to make a flurry of moves that will make them good bets to make the playoffs, my hat's off to their optimism.

I think they’ll make some moves - some that look detrimental and some that look good (but will be disparaged anyway). And I think they weren’t as far from the post season as many want to believe last year.

And yet the plastic dumbbell guy had one less home run and a higher SLG as rookies.

I think the Sox should keep Yoshida. He’s got potential to be their best OBP bat and that is one star they desperately need…

like I have said many times on here Henry approves just enough signings for the team to remain in the mushy middle. to date other than the yankees who are not finished none of the the ther AL East teams have done anting either. Blue Jay fans are just as upset as Sox fans
