According to @ByRobertMurray, the Red Sox have sent minor-league reliever Ryan Ammons to the Mets.

Ammons was selected in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Clemson. Worked as a reliever in college.

Has yet to debut in pro ball. No word on the return yet.

Justin Slaten, the guy the Mets grabbed in the Rule 5 draft.

Lester didn't really come back to bite us, but he should have been a lifetime Red Sox and the contract he signed wasn't horrible.

He did have the same ERA with the Cubs (for 6 years) as the Sox (for 9 years).

We could have used him, and he was cheaper than Price.

We won a ring in 2018, so it's easier to let go.

Had the Sox won after letting Betts, go, it would not be such a major issue.

Breslow is so smart, that he left two pitchers exposed to get picked out of the top six selections -- just to open up a spot for an arm he coveted from Texas, that the Mets agreed to draft and immediately flip to Boston in an obviously pre-determined agreement.

This is how molecularly physical our new CBO is: Boston set a record for losing the most guys on Rule V Day WHILE trading up for their top choice (that they somehow seduced another club to nab...)...

New Red Sox RHP Justin Slaten takes one of the open 40-man spots. For Texas last year he had a 2.87 ERA & 1.07 WHIP w/86 K:20 BB in 59.2 IP (AA/AAA). Four pitch mix including 95-98 mph FB, 88-91 mph cutter, mid-80s SL & low-80s CB. Another intriguing power arm in the bullpen mix.

Fernandez is always injured and no big loss. Drohan couldn't compete in AAA and only had a very brief small sample of success in AA. Maybe Drohan will be good going forward? His pitching really sucked after he was promoted and no injury concerns were noted.

If he liked Slaten and really wanted to draft him and worked up a deal with the Mets to bring him on board after they took him, it makes Breslow seems to be a pretty decisive guy.

However, it's just the Rule 5 Draft. The vast majority of these guys amount to nothing of note.

Last year lots of people got worked up about losing three pitchers - especially Noah Song - in the Rule 5 draft. But in the end we got Song and Politi back and Ward didn’t exactly dazzle in Washington…

.@ChrisCotillo says the Red Sox interest in Domingo German and Jordan Hicks has been “overblown” so far.

Song was just unexpected and crazy. I think people were more upset at how it would impact Song's development adversely (it did). Some were using it as proof that DD got something over on Bloom (he didn't).

Nobody cared about Politi.

Ward should have been traded before the protection deadline as he had enough value to go 1st overall. I understand they didn't want to put him on the 40 man, but at least trade him for some MiLB guy and get something back for it.

Fernandez is this year's Politi.

Drohan is a lesser version of Ward IMO. Should have been traded back in November when they knew they didn't want to protect him.

Rumor is the Sox are signing Martin Maldonado. Would they then deal McGuire?

Let's hope so. I like Craig's thinking here. I'm feeling the aura of smartness so far, man...

Some are unnaturally superstitious about baseball.

I didn’t get protecting Ort over Ward - still don’t. But the only reason I can fathom for not protecting Ward was because of how much time he missed…

Not sure it's been dicussed.

Cora when asked about Sox outfield going forward he mentioned Duran, Abreu and Rafaela.

Duran will get a long leash from Cora. He loves Duran' s speed. Cora said Abreu has strong arm to go with his offense.

He also thinks Rafaela's defense will balance out his offense at the start but says he needs a look.

Not feeling the smartness, but I know it’s early yet…

He's been a part of the org for like a month.....

And he walked into a tough spot. But patience has kind of had its day for Sox fans the last few years.

I always make sure to step on the foul lines whenever I'm on a diamond. It actually horrifies veteran baseball peeps.

But I will say "no-hitter" when a pitcher is working on one. Like, "This batter is another no-hitter up there. Their line-up is full of no-hitters."

Sox fans and patience are not two words that should be uttered in the same sentence since the start of November 2004.

Older fans who lived through the last four decades before the century turned would vary.

An interesting concept is to contrast Sox fans who grew up in the '00s with those who were kids in the past dozen roller coaster years.

Or Yankee fans who grew up in the 70s or 90s, compared to those from the past decade... my son's Yankee fan buddies have never been alive when the Yankees were in a World Series.

Sox ownership and patience haven't had much of a relationship for a while either.

They seem to be patient with losing and not seriously trying to change that.

Well they better fix that if they don't want to start taking a serious hit to their bottom line. It's a business after all.

Indeed. I'm not sure how much longer the fans will tolerate this sham.

Obviously, some teams feel they can make enough money without winning or even giving the impression they are trying to win or are building to win in X amount of years, but with Boston, it seems like so much more money can be made by spending some more.

I'm not buying the schtick, anymore. I need to see the change, before I fall for the sham, another year.

What Brez is saying sounds great, but so did what everyone was saying the last few years.

Just reading this post would give Justin Morneau an apoplectic attack…

Is that why they fired Bloom?

Yes. It's all part of the sham. Throw him under the bus, and try to convince fans a brighter horizon looms with Brez.

Well, people keep filling the seats and paying for NESN.

We may not be back to pre-COVID levels, but with higher ticket and cable costs, the money is still flowing in: win or lose.

Yes, they must think we are dumm.
