A key game for Sale to see if he can resume and continue his most recent excellent, effective outing. No reversion to the mean for him . A win over the Orioles in Camden Yards with a strong performance by Sale would be seriously encouraging.

I'm not against another good start by Sale. Far from it. We have seen potential in the rotation, but the grim truth is that as of today, April 23, the Sox team ERA is 5.10 and ranked 26th in MLB. This is mostly because of bad outings by the rotation.

On the other hand, the whole team--the Boston freaking Red Sox--have just taken 2 of 3 against the Brewers, who had been tied for the best W-L record in the National League, 2 of 3 from the Twins, who had been leading the AL Central, and 3 of 4 from the high-priced Angels, who are just 1 game back of the Astros in the AL West.

The Sox are now ranked 3d in MLB in runs scored, and they are doing it with what I would call a "no name offense." They got Devers, period. Dugo has no name, nor does Turner. Indeed, when Verdugo came east to Boston, the big story was how the idiotic Sox--JH and Bloom--let Mookie Betts go. And Mookie, as we all know, is worth every cent of his $365M contract.

Yoshida is known only in Japan--well, except for two dingers in the 8th inning of last night's game. Before last night, Yoshida was known to Sox fans as "Bloom's folly." Maybe he still is, right along with our IL denizens, Story and Duvall.

AL East, only one of 6 MLB divisions with all 5 teams W-L record .500+

I looked it up, and since MLB went to 6 divisions in 1994, no team has ever finished last and above .500. The 2005 Nationals did finish last with a .500 record.

Watch out for the Orioles because they are red hot!!! They just took 3 straight from the 7-13 Detroit Tigers, before that 2/2 from the 7-14 Washington Nationals, before that 2/3 from the 7-15 White Sox, and before that 3/4 from the 4-18 Oakland A's.

The AL East were also dominant last year and the year before. The big surprise this year is the Orioles.

But last year's Orioles were 21-30 at the end of May and went 62-49 the rest of the way. They started getting better around the same time Rutschman joined the team.

A prime time catcher a la Varitek, Fisk, Sammy White would be a major addition to this roster . We complain about the lack of player development by Boston for pitching , but how about catcher ? Vazquez was suitable but not in the same category as the aforementioned.

That's why I'm keeping fingers crossed that Wong might be a good one (though probably not with the stick).

Cheap joke: Hope you're not wong about that . Connor probably could be a decent backup and late inning defensive guy , if needed.

I don't know. His competitor was pretty handy with the stick, no?

there are those who believe this team did not start improving last year along with the Jays who started when they changed managers and the team with the lowest payroll and lowest fan support and no long term super stars, it's not always about how much you spend

I'm looking at May 17th after the Mariner's game to see if any significant trends have developed for this roster, and those that will carry through the season. That should be 44 games, more than 25% of the year. Questions to be considered:

1. When might Duvall return, along with Story ( May , June or July)

2. Did Casas find his way to improve, or will Chaim be shopping for 1B

3. Is the relief pitching holding up strong , are the starters effective and going 6 innings ? Is Paxton any factor at all.\

4. Can Chang be a FT SS on a winning team?

5. Has Yoshi become a plus WAR steady contributor ?

6. Have any current regulars been injured ?

I'm sure there are many more to think about.

Well we are better than those teams i feel. Lol. This should be their first big test.

Well, they pulled the plug on Bello, quicker than I thought they would. May be a short term move to get a 26 man slot for Bernandino as a LH reliever.

Duran saves Sale a big hit, and Wong messes up The O's running game. This illegitimate roster is starting to play very well on defense.

They'd rather have Bello playing in Worcester than sitting on the bench in Boston. He's got a great arm, so Bloom's plan might be to get him some reps at shortstop and in right field to improve his versatility.

They couldn't send Kluber down to play SS or RF, because he only throws 87 mph now.

Nice grab. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that last year's Duran has a twin brother playing for the SOX this year.

Jarren must have found the bottle of attitude pills, and taken several. Totally different output now

The big question is can he go back to his right on both pop-ups and long flies
