But, would you do one of those trades listed?

It's easy to say "Do something."

What would you do?

Pirates are going to either sign Reynolds to a long term contract, or deal him in the offseason.

Agreed, but I'd like to know what exactly Red would like to see Bloom do. It's easy to complain about "not doing anything," but who would he give up and for _____?

He doesn't answer those questions. We already know that. Why bother asking?

I think they should consider finding someone who can field SS adequately and move Kiké to CF. José Iglesias is at AAA for the Marlins. My guess is Duvall is going to go on the 60 day IL. It's not going to move mountains to fix the problem, but the Sox weren't going to win anything until the rest of the team started hitting anyway.

I'm just really OUT on seeing Kiké at SS.

It's not a good time now, the time for Bloom to build the team was in the offseason.

We all said a lot of things had to go right for this team to make a run at a playoff spot. Duvall's injury is now a thing that didn't go right.

I don’t answer those questions, because I don’t get paid to do so, and once again I’m not doing Bloom’s job for him. For good, or WORSE that’s what he gets paid the big bucks for.

They definitely need someone to field SS adequately, but what I don’t get is why everyone says the answer to CF is to move Kike there. I’m not just out on seeing Kike at SS, but I’m out on seeing him playing at all. He’s 3-31, so how much worse can he get He can’t hit so far this year, and he couldn’t hit last year, and yes that was before he got hurt too. Yes he plays a good CF, but JBJ could too, and the Red Sox are still sending him paychecks. I questioned if the Red Sox could have done better with $10M when they resigned Kike, and I was told by more than one poster on here no. People are fixated on Kike’s hot streak in the 2021 postseason, but hasn’t done much with the bat since. I know Kike is not this bad with the bat, but at the moment he stinks to high heaven, and to me is no part to any solution.

Your wording didn't left it open to interpretation.

I'm fine with a Yorke trade. He keeps tweaking his stance and has an injury history and a bad defensive profile.

I like a Laureano despite all his issues. Gotta respect that arm.

But that’s a deal Oakland probably doesn’t make until July, when every team has had a chance to bid on him.

Making a deal today likely involves either a minor leaguer/utility player whose current team doesn’t much care about, or taking on a contract another team would greatly prefer to move.

The only candidate I can think of right now is DeJong…

Bottom line is I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for Bloom to do something to help the club. If he does something to help the club that would be great, but I’m not counting on it. What you see Chang, Tapia, Ref Man, Bobby D, and Kike may be all you get.

At this point in the season, Bloom’s options are limited. Accusing him of sitting on his hands doesn’t change that…

Like I say, the time for moves was in the offseason. Now we're stuck with what we've got.

I'm actually not going to press Bloom for making a big deal right now, because how much will it really matter? Duvall might have been hot enough to have an entire great year and lead us to the playoffs, but unless we want to overpay -- with prospect capital -- no one's going to swap someone similar and weaken their own club right now.

And seriously, beyond Devers -- who seems to be trying to win the pennant by himself every game now -- which current Red Sox player is actually in his prime? The 2023 line-up and pitching staff is built with two types: past-their-primetimers and not-ready-for-primetimers.

There's no bridge that can bear that weight for a whole season, no matter which direction either group is marching.

Yep, what we have is a patchwork bridge. A couple storms and the whole thing is in the water.

But he had a really limited budget with a lot of holes to fill!

I don't see them being able to fill CF AND SS. Easier to move Kiké to a position he can actually field and find someone to play SS IMO.

Bloom did build the team in the offseason just not to sure the build will hold up.

But Kike can’t hit,and hasn’t hit much for two years now.

Indeed, it's nearly impossible to make major additions, now.

It's easy to just say, "we need to add someone, now," but the cost would likely be something hardly anyone would agree is worth it, especially other GMs.

How many bidders are there really for Laureano? I don't think there are that many that would cause a trade to be held up until the deadline. It would make more sense for a potential Reynolds deal to be held up until then, but he doesn't have an expiring contract. It'd be only if two playoff teams had a OF hole they needed to fill and wanted him desperately.

I agree with the premise I bolded. That's why I mentioned Iggy in another post. He's not going to move the meter, but he's a better option that everything else that exists on the 40 man roster right now.

I don't know much about DeJong except that he's currently injured. He's a better fielder than Iggy is right now that's for sure. Hitting wise?

Half the team isn't hitting, now. He might have more 2023 promise than Arroyo, Wong and maybe even Turner & Casas.

You'll have to convince me. Picking him up would put them over the CBT.

I doubt we'd play his full contract. BTV has him at -$7M.

We could send them Brasier and ask for $4-6M with DeJong.

That may keep us under but leave very little for deadline deals, if needed.

When is the last time the Red Sox had this many stopgap players to start the season?

Ok?

So why do you want him in CF, or anywhere else? The good old eye test says it’s actually worse than just saying he hasn’t hit.

Kiké to CF. You wait for him to hit. If he doesn't, you either go to Duran (978 OPS in AAA) or just throw Rafaela into the fire realizing he isn't going to learn to hit the way you want him to.

Who’s going to play SS? I would rather just go to a platoon in CF right now with the Ref Man, and Tapia if they are just going to stay with what they got.

They would have to acquire someone. Right now, they will be going with Tapia/Refsnyder, which is not ideal!

Dalbec is coming up to fill in at SS? I don't like that either!

Why does Chaim hate defense and the starting rotation?
