I doubt that he does much to help us out over the winter. He may make a run at something flashy to keep interest up but signing quality top of the rotation guys costs more money than it appears is likely to be spent. Most people seem excited about what is getting stockpiled in the minors but how about the pitching?

You may be right, but I'm thinking JH & Co. are going to take "the plunge," at some point. It may not be in the form of spending big on pitching (very risky,) but rather by finally pulling the trigger on a trade for a solid and controlled pitcher with strong potential to be an ace, or one who already is. We will part with some top everyday player prospects to boost the pitching.

They spent big on Devers, and his prime years are now, so they may see the window as starting in 2024. Off season trades do not demand the same returns as deadline deals often fueled by desperate GMs jacking up the returns.

I did expect and hope we added a SP'er at the deadline- even two.

I think we could have afforded to part with a decent but not top prospect or two to get a rental or even splurge and get someone like Civale.

It's obvious the team management has placed the extended future plan as the top priority, and I'm not so sure that was a mistake, despite my differing opinion.

I think they viewed the imminent return of 2-3 pitchers and the recent return of Schreiber as being "enough" of a boost for the staff and the return of Reyes and then Story, plus the swap of Urias for Arroyo on the 40, as enough of a boost to the offense and defense.

I said this should be Bloom's "make or break" season, and I'm going to let it play out, before I jump all over him.

(It looks like he will be back, next year, regardless of this season's results, so he will likely get another "make or break" season or teo.)

Imminent return of 2-3 pitchers? They’ve needed help for weeks now. When Raffy came out, and said the Red Sox needed pitching was that bashing Bloom? When Jansen said the Red Sox needed help was that bashing Bloom? When Cora came out, and said it doesn’t matter how many prospects you have, or what your farm ranking is, and what matters most is what you do, and don’t do in October was that bashing Bloom? To me Cora was bashing Bloom. To me it’s been embarrassing to watch the Red Sox have so many games using an opener, and BP games, and truth be told I bet Cora would tell you the same thing. The Red Sox have turned into a minor league operation, and I heard that Wake brought it up during the broadcast last night not doing anything to help the club at the deadline sent a bad message to the clubhouse, and he should know. Watching most of the clubs in contention for a postseason berth do something to try to improve like the Jay’s did, and the Red Sox do practically nothing is not what fans pay top dollar to see.

No coincidence, you come back when the team is struggling and all but disappeared when Bloom was looking pretty good.

If you are so embarrassed by watching the Sox, go be an Astros fan.

This team has been exciting to watch- the most exciting since 2018, except for the second half of 2021. You can keep choosing doom and gloom, so you can gloat that you disliked Bloom from day one and were right for thinking he'd suck as a GM.

You are a fan only of yourself.

That’s baseball in the 2020’s. Tampa seems to use opener more often than the Sox do. And since the days of the 6-7 man bullpen are over, these games are not as detrimental to the pen as they used to be.

But Bloom should have gotten a starter…

You don’t think Cora is embarrassed for what he has had to trot out for all these openers, and BP games? Probably not. What amazes me is how fans from afar can have much of a clue on what the real pulse of Red Sox Nation is. Unless you live in it, work in it, play in it, and talk face to face with others that I do I’m sure you don’t get anywhere near the whole picture. Reading the local, and Boston papers, and the local, and NE columnist not to mention all the NE talk shows, and the likes of Mas, and Shaugnessy who I know the mention of those names, and talk shows send people into a tizzy on here, but some of those guys have probably forgotten more than you will ever know. It’s easy to set behind a keypad, but I go out, and talk, and mingle pretty much on a daily basis. Some Yankees fans, and even an O’s fan that has taking so much abuse for years is living it up now.Bottom line from what I encounter in all my encounters the opinions for the most part are a lot different from what I hear on here. I have showed some of the tit for tats, and I know you are, but what am I that has gone on here countless times, and one of the women dubbed you, and some of the others after Whoopie as the men of the view, or talksox as it may. Appropriate, and fitting, and I LMAO. Sad, but true for some who only reside in my little corner of the world of talksox. So like I said to go on thinking as you wish that most of my opinions are of the few when if you really get out, and about they would probably be more of the many. This is the second time you’ve told me to be a fan of someone else, and I’ll consider the source, and pass. If Cora is embarrassed, which I’m sure he is shouldn’t he go manage another team? Can you see it, can you feel it? I can along with many others.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with basing your own opinion on your own thoughts as opposed to what you want Cora to think. None of us have any idea if Cora is embarrassed or not. And it’s not a matter of opinion…

Also the media types you seek out aren’t news; they’re opinion columnists. Massarotti is an established liar, and the rest live in a world where the more negative they are, the more clicks they get. And of course, more clicks translates directly to more advertising revenue.

For a guy who passionately advocates the eye test, your version of it seems to involve less baseball watching and more perusing of Shaughnessy columns…

You assume the pulse of Sox Nation is right.

You assume you know what that pulse is.

I know Cora wanted help at the deadline, as did a few players if not most players. All I can say is that I am glad the players and fans don't make the decisions.

Yes, Cora, the guy you have continually bashed, knows way more than I do, but so do Bloom and the Sox upper brass who made some choices against the wishes of "the pulse" and Cora and some vocal players. My guess is the Sox upper brass knows more than "some of those guys have forgotten," too. I, for one, happen to have agreed with Cora, and I hoped we had made more moves at the deadline, but I don't know what other teams wanted for rentals and others, so I won't bash the management of the team I love based on hearsay and worse.

I'm not sure why you keep feeling the need to repeat, over and over, that you hear different things than what you hear on this site. It is meaningless to everyone, but apparently, you. Your assumption that you are the worldly one why some of us are locked in a tiny corner of talksax is absurd and reveals everything anyone needs to know about your pettiness and doubletalk.

It's more than the second time I have suggested you go be another team's fan, because you obviously only care about clinging to the few times you were right about a Sox player or employee sucking. Your obsession with Kike says it all. For some reason, it really ugged the s*** out of you than some of us got overly hung up on his second half or 2021 and hoped and cheered like real fans do, that he might repeat the second half of 2021 in 2022 and 2023. That's what real fans do, and you chose to gloat about being right that he was nothing more than a "utility player." Hurray for you! You being right was more important than Kike doing well, again. We get it. Please move on to another team's fanbase. They will love having fans like you aboard.

He's admitted he no longer watches baseball, but his "eye test" opinions keep flowing.

Some 26 and 40 man roster decisions will need to be made, soon.

Story comes off the 60 day IL:

DFA: Garza and demote Urias or DFA Reyes

Sale comes off the 60 day IL:

DFA: Kluber

Demote: Jacques

Houck comes off the IL:

Demote Llovera

Whitlock comes off the IL:

DFA Bleier or demote Bernardino or Murphy

Joely comes off the IL:

(see Whitlock choices)

Word from MLBTR says the Marlins were in "extensive" talks with the Sox on Justin Turner.

Maybe a sell-off was very close to coming to fruition.

Not sure it's a great thing that these stories come out after the deadline. I think Bloom also said he dangled Paxton and Duvall but didn't match up with anyone.

It all adds to the perception that the front office has little hope for the 2023 team.

From the man from afar, and talksox Joyless Behar. I’ve been a Red Sox fan longer than you, and I don’t think, because I don’t meet your standards, and like you are no authoritarian that is going to change.

Well Turner is going to walk for nothing after the season just like Eovaldi, Bogaerts, JDM, etc did last year. Bloom has gambled on the Sox making the postseason. Should cost him his job if they don't make it. Nonetheless I know that he will be back next year anyway.

I don’t seek out anyone, and I don’t always agree with everyone, but like I said often I like t get as much info as I can get, and sometimes I learn something new. Do you think when Cora said it doesn’t matter how many prospects you have, or what the rankings of the farm system is, and what matters most is what you do, or don’t do in October was directed at Bloom?

On a sad note, Kike doing OK in LA and playing everyday.

Hopefully Urias can play well here.

Good for Kike. Was always a fan of his when he was with the Dodgers the first time.

Total crock.

100% truth. I also have witnesses to prove it. Do you have witnesses to prove otherwise in your little corner of the world?

Sox have fallen to just 5 games over .500, and once again the naysayers have returned to the roost to sing the "Sox Nation Song," only they know how to sing it.

57-52 '23

54-55 '22 (lost the next 4 games)

64-45 '21 (went 4-8 afterwards

59-50 '19 (lost the next 5 games)

Let's hope we can reverse the August trend!

While you sing in my little corner of the world. Hilarious, and sad movies at the same time. I’m heading out to the club to mingle with some Red Sox fans.

When everyone has a problem with you, without exception, you're the problem. You come to this board with the express idea of making everyone who ever so slightly enjoys this team miserable. I thought you stopped watching the Sox?
