Kind of unfair as he was on 4 teams in 2004 as a 23 year old.

Age 25 season with PIT: 16 HR, 58 R, 51 RBI, 96 wRC+. Duran didn't come close to this last year. Bautista had Duran's AAA BB and K rates.

Age 26 season with PIT: 15 HR, 75 R, 63 RBI, 97 wRC+. We'd all take that from Duran this season, but that is not going to happen.

Sure, but I don’t think anyone at the time thought Bautista would be anything more than a mediocre MLB player and certainly not the star he became. I don’t think Duran will be anywhere near that level or that he’ll even be good player. I was just pointing out that some guys are late bloomers

Do I think Duran has earned the starting CF spot? Absolutely not. Do I think he should be release? Also absolutely not.

I’m willing to keep him around at least for this season, which doesn’t look promising and seeing if he can finally put some of his tools to use. If he struggles again? Then yeah he sucks, just move on.

Another point worth remembering is Duran might only get half a season or so to make something happen because Ceddane Rafaela is right behind him. And while Rafaela’s offense poses just as many questions (if not more), we at least know he can bring the leather…

That article is over 2 years old and gained zero traction in that time…

I was aware of that. Apparently you didn't recognize the fact that I was posting it precisely because it was so preposterous that it had already been debunked. Hence, "If you liked that you'll like this even more!"

History has shown that just because the OP knows an article is old and outdated doesn’t mean everyone who reads it does.

As you might have noticed, I didn’t even respond to you, but rather someone else who responded to you…

Man, what a brutal whiff this was by Chaim. We waited the whole damn offseason for him to select a starter and this was what we got. Kind of a disgrace really.

He waited out the FA class and whiffed bad.

And Wacha was out there late into the offseason.

Late into Spring Training, even. Every team was passing on him.

Wacha is better than Kluber.

Fair point. Then again, a dude from the Dominican Winter Leagues is better than Kluber.

My post was talking about last season.

Indeed, and it seems strange that to some, the solution to improving the 2023 was to bring back the 2022 team.

So signing Kluber over Wacha was improving the team? Resigning Kike improved the team? No, and no.

I hope we move from Kike for 2024. We can put $10M to better use. Use Pivetta's $6.3M, Kluber's $10M and Kike's $10M and go get an ace.

throw in Mondesi's $3M and you're talking real money.

So $26mill? Lucas Giolito or Tyler Mahle?

I’d add German Marquez to that list, but he’s probably out most of next year…

Sounds like a good reason not to add him.

say what? Wacha was better than Kluber last year by almost any measure. Same this year.

Not by the one true stat: fWAR.

Yes, that's the stat that brought Corey and his 88 MPH FB to Boston. :P

If he pitched like last year right now, we'd get no complaints here about him.

Kluber pitched more innings, had a better k%, better bb%, better EV than Wacha last year. Signs pointed to him being better than Wacha in 2023. He just is no longer able to control the zone.

As Jax would say, he's elderly.

I still find it hard to accept the Sox missed out on both Eflin and Eovaldi apparently because they wouldn't cough up a little extra dough. We're not even talking about big amounts of money compared to what we've blown on other players. Too much attention paid to a strict budget, and it's proving costly.
