Another good outing today by Wacha at the stadium. 7 IP/5 H/ 2 ER.

Yes, another lucky game for Michael. Maybe his month of May will go down as the luckiest of any pitcher in history.

Wacha probably thought he was signing with a better team, but it doesn’t look like it so far this season.

someone on Facebook claimed the reason Kluber has been so bad and Wacha so good is the weather -nice and mild in SD while cold and clammy in Boston. LOL. yeah, that's it.

And so soon after the luckiest season in history!

That honor will always belong to Carlos Silva.

It is pretty clear that Eovaldi and Wacha were better picks to click than Kluber.

Was this true in December?

I would think so.. Wacha and Eovaldi were both better last season and it’s not like Kluber was getting younger…

I think so .

Even though Kluber was better and healthier than both last season?

Wacha threw 127 innings last year and it was the most he’d thrown since 2017. Kluber threw 164.

Eovaldi considers the Injured List his summer home…

Wacha : 11- 2 , 3.32 ERA. Eovaldi : 6-3, 3.87 ERA. Kluber: 10-10 , 4.34 ERA. Kluber is several years older than the others.

Wacha: 127 IP, 1.5 fWAR

Eovaldi: 109 IP, 1.0 fWAR

Kluber: 164 IP, 3.0 fWAR

Kluber was older, but that doesn’t mean you ignore the obvious and omnipresent injury problems from the other two pitchers…

So, there actually was a reason Bloom signed the bum.

Those damn metrics!!!!

That and Kluber was likely the only one of the three to take a one year deal. Plus Eovaldi and Wacha quite often don’t have a healthy arm between them…

and i think Kluber would be Exhibit A on why you don't rely solely on them.

And you’re sure that’s what happened?

Exactly. We did offer Nate much more for one year.

I'm pretty sure we'd have taken Wacha at $7.5M/1.

To be fair, Wacha and Eovaldi sitting on injury list and causing someone else to start, probably would’ve gotten better results than Kluber…

Like more of Pivetta?

You're being a bit selective, considering that Kluber threw a grand total of 116 innings for the years 2019-2021. If we only use 2022, Carlos Rodon has no injury concerns either.

Academic niceties. All that really matters is what actually happened.

Kluber (over-the-hill, sign him!) Story (injury prone, arm issues, sign him big!), Kike (after a bad season, sign him!), Duvall (injury prone)...yup, GM of the Year.

I’ve repeatedly expressed that willingness to sign a one year deal was also a likely factor…

You do understand this team is winning right now, right?

Not necessarily given the way Walter, Murphy and Mata have been going so far this year…

What does that have to do with the injury point?

The starts likely would’ve gone to Crawford and Winckowski, which I get hurts the pen.. but it’s not like Kluber helps the pen in anyway shape or form

Maybe they start, but both of them have started and neither exactly dazzled in the rotation either.

Kluber was a very low risk gamble that didn’t work out. I don’t mind that they signed him. They needed rotation help and he certainly has a long history of being a successful starter. But I’m also glad it was only for one year and glad they removed him from the rotation…
