Per Passan on twitter. No word on return yet

While the astros certainly could use a boost at the catcher position, I did read recently that no WS winner has ever made a major catching change via trade mid season.

Yup. When you're trying to improve your team, get rid of your best players for guys you know nothing about. That should do it.

The question for the fans is "Given that management is happy to put an inferior product out there for the remainder of the season, will you be paying good money to see them?" Why not just watch the future of the team in Worcester or even Portland?

Gotta be a great feeling for vaz.

Going from the cellar to first place and he only had to walk across the diamond!

Yes -- for Diekman! Addition by subtraction!

Bloom is selling and buying. McGuire has a higher dWAR than Vaz this year.

McGuire is also a registered sex offender who masturbates in public. Not sure I really want to root for that guy

Moon never thought Vaz was good enough, but Moon is not the talent evaluator he thinks he is. Vaz had some big clutch hits through the years.

Vasquez is walking at the end of the year. The Sox are under Henry’s direction to cut salary. It’s a relief to see that the management has a realistic view of this group of losers now. I hope they can somehow keep Devers. He has by far the best bat on the team.

Damn, MOON, pretty disrespectful post to a guy who played hard every game and was one of the very few SOX who wasn't disappointing this season. Expected better from you.

I didn’t.

Here's the return for Christian Vazquez: Enmanuel Valdez has played 1B/2B/3B/LF/RF and is hitting .327/.410/.606 w/21 HR in 378 PA across AA and AAA. Wilyer Abreu has played all three OF spots and is hitting .249/.399/.459 with 15 HR and 23 SB in 411 PA in AA.

Vaz was one of the few guys who was doing his job this year.

He’s also a FA at years end and the team isn’t going anywhere this year so who cares? You can always sign him back, or even upgrade the position and sign Wilson Contreras in the off-season.

Looks like duplicates of Rafaela and Potts.

You may not care, but some do.

... both turned 23 this season as Houston's #28 and #29 prospects. Both lefty swingers with promising power.

Valdez is #12 on BAs list. Definitely the better prospect of the deal.

Interesting. Not a bad return.

Abreu was #21 in the Astros system per Fangraphs with a future value of 35+. Valdez wasn’t ranked…

The guys at ESPN said the red sox clubhouse was pretty down about vaz being traded

That’s what is most important is what the guys in the clubhouse like Bogey, and Raffy think, and the rest of the guys who will be left. At the moment it seems the the club is worse off then it was before, and management has given up.

The team selling pending FAs is fine ... it hurts, but not more than being out of the race does

Did you see vaz in the interview?

He was glassy eyed and at a loss for words.

And in a sox uniform
