Pfffft... Players sign based on their feelings, not based on the $$$'s on the contract!

Best offer plus a hug?

He also could be back in the off season as he won't be terribly expensive

Possibly as a short term fill, but it's not something I'm counting on. I'm wondering if McGuire could amount to more than a backup catcher.

Low testosterone. Unhappy with how their lives turned out.

Watching NESN while sharing a couch with the Grim Reaper?

Ahh... the old "we can resign him when he becomes a FA" statement. Let's see, where have I heard that before?.... Hmmm...Lester?... Betts? Ya, right. Pfft.

If we're going to try to predict the perfect time to trade someone let's let the entire left side of the IF go too. Neither of those guys are going to be worth more than they are now, JH can save millions, and we can land a few minor leaguers who probably will never pan out. But if they do pan out we can trade them for MORE minor leaguers, and so ad infinitum. We can regress from being a 2nd tier team to being the equivalent of the Twins. Or the Rays. /s/

Am I the only one who sees a pattern there?

100% agree with both your last posts.

It’s absolutely a reason why he would. Doesn’t mean he necessarily will…

Hence the reason I said maybe or maybe not.

I think McQuire has his hands full at the moment.

Reports are that he has a very hands on approach......

A pattern? Are we equating trading Vazquez and Diekman to trading Betts?

The Sox are holding Bogaerts, which certainly breaks that pattern.

Double oof.

In all seriousness, he's reportedly a sold defensive catcher. For me, that precedence over any offense he might provide.

So you are saying the sox staff is in good hands?

Come on. What Dewey was saying was obvious: this is the third time we've heard a major trade justified with the old canard 'Don't worry we can resign him as a FA after the season.' And if Bogey were traded, we'd doubtless hear it again.

a bit of a generalization I think - neither applies to me

LOL

Baseball has a way of making us all grumpy.

That is true.

However, some bounce back from it, and some stay grumpy.

Truth.

I have to remind myself not to let baseball impact me so much.

Because they can't function like they used to in parked cars anymore, not with partners or even solo, like big league catchers?

I can see this McGuire thing is going to get a lot of mileage. LOL

Need to let them get it out their system. Otherwise they'll be walking around like a loaded gun.
