Optics schmoptics.

End of the day, if it didn’t get Mookie re-signed, what difference does it make?

Because that's the argument we are having.

Adolis Garcia

For

Walter

Duran

Or, if they trade Devers

Chicago (AL) gets Matt Barnes (surplus vslue -$8.3mill)

Boston gets:

RHRP Reynaldo Lopez ($5.6mill)

3b Yoan Moncada (-$12.3mill)

Trade is accepted on BTV. No word yet from Hahn or Bloom…

I like the effort, but I gotta have a slightly better return for both my #2 and #3 pitching prospects... at least, for the reason that some evaluators are saying this is the best crop of arms at the top of the Sox system in quite sometime.

Are Walter and Murphy at least better prospects than Winckowski and Seabold?

The point for Red Sox fans -- especially this winter -- is that we shouldn't have to hope the guy in charge of assembling the roster in Boston has to find a steal or get lucky when recruiting ballplayers.

Okay, but you mentioned Hand and Robertson, neither of whom were sure bets at the start of 2021.

Murphy is sure to fall in the next rankings.

Walter, Mata, Ward, Perales, and Wikelman, yes. Murphy? Maybe.

I’m standing by my theory that Dombrowski went as high as he was allowed to go. And history sides with me in that he is not known for his frugality…

And my theory is that Henry Got Huffy.

... which led to what is now infamously known on talksox as Huffy's Cliff.

(not to be confused with Duffy's Cliff, which gave Fenway fans a literal standing room view -- on the field -- in front of the Monster for the first 20 years or so of the park). The first-half of the latter featured the legendary outfield of Duffy Lewis-Tris Speaker-Harry Hooper, which was intact from 1910-15.

Hooper, of course, is the greatest Red Sox winner in history with four World Series rings ('12, 15, 16, 18) and the all-time leader in outfield assists for a rightfielder with 333, 78 more than runner-up Roberto Clemente. Gotta wonder how many of those Hoop assists were force-outs at first base on would-be singles in the shallow deadball days...

In July 2022 the rankings were:

Walter 5

Winckowski 9

Murphy 10

Seabold 11

Walter is considered a better prospect, but I think he's well behind Bello or Mata. Murphy is probably just a bullpen arm? People are just excited that the Sox have anything to provide the MLB squad even if it's just a bunch of up and down guys that are lottery tickets.

Dang-yo, Walter is already 26, will turn 27 in September... who's got a quarter?

Murphy's previous career high in innings was 100. He threw 150 this year. That's a pretty big jump.

AAA ERA/WHIP

July 4.64/1.41

Aug 5.66/1.60 (when he went over 100+ innings)

Sept 6.26/1.76

The knock on Walter has been his age all along. It's why he wasn't regarded very highly early on even though his numbers were really good.

Drafted at 22 in 26th round.

2020 season cancelled, year 23.

A/A+ as a 1st year pro at 24.

He would have debuted in MLB last season, but got injured.

Still think Swanson might be the one we end up with.

Anthony Franco on Paxton:

Someone finally got it right.

It seems weird how everyone on this site loved the signings and nobody complained about it.
