Ken Giles, who has surrendered one hit and no runs in four appearances since his activation June 20, was mentioned as a potential trade target in an Over the Monster podcast last month:

https://www.overthemonster.com/2022/6/10/23162366/the-red-seat-podcast-early-trade-targets

ZiPS projects Carlos Santana with a rest-of-season wRC+ of 113; to date Red Sox first basemen have posted a wRC+ of 81. Santana has played in 58 games this season and in June posted a cherry-picked .323/.450/.492/.942 line in 80 plate appearances.

I'd still say no, unless you want some guy we will ax for Rule 5, this winter.

Groome?

Downs?

He’s got 2 arb years left.

You do t trade money to get Soto. You trade Mayer, Casas and more.

BTV turned down Mayer, Casas, Yorke,Bello, Duran, and Dalbec for Soto, due to the lack of a headliner with enough value…

They had an article there saying he was virtually untradeable.

He’s in the same boat non-virtually as well…

Bloom is still negotiating terms with Giles, who will no longer be allowed to punch himself in the head after any crappy outing. What's holding up the trade now is Cora insists for every blown save that he gets to punch either Giles or Bloom in the head.

Too big for me, too.

No way I trade that much for just 2 years. I thought you might, since prospects are worth nothing until they play in the bigs.

Cue: change the question.

Now with Bello starting Wednesday, and Winkowski, and Seabold getting their chance now the prospects are starting to matter, and are worth something.

Untouchables in our minor league system:

Mayer - future superstar

Bello - electric stuff

Mata - nearly electric stuff

Winkleman - nearly electric stuff when Command and control are working!

Everybody else should be available to help make the Boston team better,

We probably don’t need to part with Murphy, German, Wink, Seabold or Crawford to get quality pen & 1B help.

At least two of them can can be bullpen help this year.

As weird as it sounds, once nearly everybody is healthy, we will have a surplus of pitchers with no options remaining. We may DFA some (Robles) or trade a few others for scraps to make room for higher level RP’ers we acquire in other trades.

I think we go bigger than last year’s Robles & Davis deals.

I liked a Groome/Josh Bell proposal I put out on BTV as something for both teams, but Bell’s value has since increased.

Brandon Walter for Bell?

My only issue is I would hate to lose Bobby Dalbec’s walk up songs. Soul Kitchen and Purple Haze? Maybe that’s why I’ve been among his staunchest supporters…

I would not give Walter for Bell. Maybe Downs or Groome & Jimenez?

No worries. The Nationals are unlikely to trade Josh Bell for Brandon Walter, a former 26th-round draft pick who has pitched only 7.2 inning above Double A as the lefthander approaches his 26th birthday in September.

You highlighted all the bad. Here is some good.

2022

57.2 IP

75 K

7 BB

.585 OPS Against

0.90 WHIP

The 11:1 K:BB ratio is astoundingly great.

BTV has him valued at 4.9, which is pretty close to Bell's 5.6.

We did get Schwarber for Aldo Ramirez. I think you over value Bell. I may be over valuing Walter.

I also appreciate Bobby D's tune choices. But we're running out of time; when a pitcher throws one in Dalbec's kitchen, he needs to start cleaning his plate!

I kept thinking maybe Bobby Dee is a warm weather hitter. It looks like that was just wishful thinking.

I've not given up on him, yet, but 2 years in a row with these long and slow starts can not be tolerated.

He's been reduced to a part-time player. The only thing that's keeping him around is his affordability and those flickering glimmers of hope you're talking about.

The thing is, those "flickerings" are about as extended as his slumps, and some are blinding, white heat flickers.

2020

.436 in first 19 PAs

1.105 in last 73 PAs (much longer than the slump)

2021

.507 in first 92 PAs

1.103 next 41 PAs

.622 next 177 PAs

1.110 last 143 PAs

Or, .507 in first 92 PAs and .866 the last 331 PAs. (.000 OPS in 12 playoff PAs)

2022

.482 first 121 PAs

.867 next 66 PAs

.564 last 30 PAs

It's not a bad call; most of the greats were or are better in the heat. This is why Devers hot XBH start may result in a career year, and why there's still hope for power from JD and X -- if they're not struggling with undisclosed injuries holding them back.

Bobby Dee may still have a hot streak or two left in him, but I'm not sure how much longer he will have to show it. The trade deadline is about 4 weeks away.

Sox biggest needs lie in the pen. They should see some measure of consistency once Whitlock returns to the pen and Sale strengthens the rotation. But they can use at least one more multi inning weapon. On the offensive side, they could use a 1b and leave Casas down

Casas is on the IL and will not be ready, this year.

Josh Bell and either Michael Fulmer or Dave Robertson….

At the trade deadline, I think Hang’em Chaim brings in two right handed relievers that none of us have on our radar today.

Like Robles & Davis, last year.

Highly probable.

Schwarber was a surprise, too.

We all remember the lineups they trotted out this time last season. By the playoffs that lineup was completely different. I expect the same thing to happen this year, I don't expect to see this many holes by September.

IMO, we don’t need as much, this year, but with the feeling about the Bogey, JD & Nate window closing or possibly closing after this season, maybe we will go further in trades than Schwarber, Robles, Davis, Shaw and later, Iggy.

I’m thinking we might try to find one guy who can play RF and 1B, as well as one very good RPer or 2 solid ones. This assumes almost everyone is healthy and Maybe Paxton looks like he might be ready in August.

I just don’t think the roster has as many holes as some might think it does. As returning players arrive, we will lose the worst players by attrition, and others will be demoted to lesser and more fitting roles.

Kike can play 1b/RF. Duran needs to stay in the lineup…
