Not a bad idea to look at Houston, which has a payroll of a little over $190 mil. They have a few big contracts but let Springer walk when he got too expensive. They have Verlander for one more year at less than Sale gets.

Putting a very competitive team on the field, with a few stars and good two way players throughout is possible, especially when you can bring up future stars from the minors.

Verlander pitches like an Ace after his TJ. We extend Saale, then he gets TJ, then he breaks his own ribs, then can't go to Toronto (unforeseen at the time), then he comes back and gets smashed with a line drive to his pitching hand.

After Devers, the Sox MiLB system has not produced future stars. There may be a few on the cusp , and some are getting trial by fire, but "stars" will be coming to a ballpark near you after Devers moves on.

They go "large" not "long."

Some might say Kopech is now a star, but the guy between Ben and Bloom dealt him for freakin' Chris Sale!

Your a “malcontent” look it up if your not familiar with the word

Sale is an Ace, bad luck has come his way, I bet you weren’t complaining in 18 when he got the final out of the Series?

No one hated Sale in 2018. But extending him while he was injured has proven disastrous…

The Stork has no clue.

“malcontent?” Me? Lol!

I’m the Chris freakin’ sale nut.

I supported the extension.

I loved the trade.

Someone said our farm has not produced a star since Devers , so I mentioned Kopech, and he assumes I’m crying about trading Sale away.

These trolls have no reading comp or logic skills. They make radical assumptions, build strawman and then rail against invented ideas and positions.

Let them be. Don’t humor them by responding

Sale is the most professional pitcher I've ever seen in a Sox uniform. That said, he was not quite the ace we expected. In some games he absolutely was, but as the 2017 and 2018 seasons wore on, he lost something come August/September.

In the 2018 postseason the Sox played 11 games, and Sale's contribution was 15.1 innings and 7 earned runs for a postseason ERA of 4.17.

In the 2017 postseason he pitched 9.2 inning and gave up 9 earned runs, so he actually improved in 2018.

The next four freaking seasons--2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022--have accumulated a total WAR of 3.2. In other words, busts.

I think that skinny frame is the problem, but obviously not when the liner he is left little finger.

Question about QO for Free Agents ? Does the deal for international signing effect if they can actually duck the QO if traded before a deal made ? If so don’t we expect trades tonight by players wanting out if no deal is imminent with current team ?

Oh baby, another huge impressive signing. Who is that guy again?
Bloom’s roster construction has been atrocious this season. They played over their heads for a short stretch, but they have crashed down to earth in a fireball. They are helpless against every team in their division.
Posted
I prefer to think, they played to their capabilities until injuries wrecked their season!

Injuries have nothing to do with anything. Even early in the year they stunk against good teams. Their hot stretch were mostly VS garbage teams.

Posted
They didn’t beat teams in their division before or after the injuries.

Hey Clint, Betts in LA is bargain ain’t it?

Keep in mind one limiting factor in Bloom's way IF he determines to be a serious seller .

Buyer's, who will pay well, tend to be those who expect or on the cusp of earning a post season slot. Each league will have 6 of those initial "winners"

In the AL, 4 of those teams are in the AL East together with the Red Sox. NYY, TBR, TBJs, and ok, even the Orioles based on recent play ( 1:1000 chance still) . That leaves only a few possible AL buyers, such as Cleveland, White Sox, Twins, Mariners , none of which are known for extravagant spending on the Bogaerts/JDM types. Do the Astros need anything ? JDM could try to crack that lineup.

Bloom will have to focus on the NL , one to avoid getting beat by his own guys later, and because that' s where some money and needs are. The Mets, IMO, via Owner Steve Cohen , will go all-in to win it all this year. Try to pick his pocket, Chaim. Cohen's guys have to beat the Braves and keep the Phillies out of the picture.

Dodgers are always an open checkbook and Friedman would not shortchange his former protege, would he ? The Padres are scrambling but don't need a SS. Braves and Cardinals could use some help, maybe, JDM if he can get his back right. Are the Giants in business still after being 4 swept by LAD. Do the Brewers have any excess talent or money?

The point is again that Bloom needs to shop in the NL, not AL to move veteran names with notable bucks still remaining this year. BUT the biggest point is how can Bloom be a seller of veterans if he expects to get a WC berth . He needs to buy( 1B/SP) The next 7 games will determine where the Sox fall.

Fair Disclosure: The Sox may scramble for a WC slot, and good for them , but I do not see any hope of this current bunch, even with returning IL guys, actually reaching the ALCS much less the WS.

To me, we sell Bogey to whoever gives us the best deal, even if it's the Yanks. If they re-sign him, so be it. They may sign him, even if he's traded to the Cards or Phillies.

Here are some teams with lower offensive catchers (some are much better on defense, and maybe those teams don't want to pay to upgrade at SS or don't view Bogey as a big upgrade.

SS OPS

AL

NYY: .638 Kiner-Falefa

SEA: .717 Crawford

Not looking for SS: HOU, TOR, MIN

But I think you are right: the NL looks like a better fit:

STL: .515 Sosa

PHI: .616 Gregorius

SFG: .629 Crawford (on IL)

Mets might move Bogey to 2B or 3B

Not looking: LAD? (They always look for studs), ATL, SD??? (Is Tatis due back?)

Many teams might be in on Nate, especially, if he looks good his next start.

Many teams might be in on JD, some on Vaz, Wacha, Strohm or Hill.

I doubt anyone gambles on Kike. We won't get much, if anything, even if we pay cash for JBJ, Barnes, Diekman, Arroyo or Brasier. Dalbec and Cordero's stock has fallen so far, it maybe be worth holding on and hoping their suckiness was the fluke and not their hot streaks.

Sale is untradeable, right now.
