I was saving those for when Dan Vogelbach becomes an option at 1b…

For Vogelbach, they'd have to shell out higher tier talent like Cellucci to get it done.

He is pretty terrible at 1b though.

Can’t you say that about most GMs? Especially the ones whose primary job isn’t shedding payroll…

"Depth" has been an ongoing talking point for Bloom. It's not that way with most GM's.

Fair, inn terms of market value, yes, but that doesn't mean I'm on board with signing him to that.

I would not be upset, if we did. I was for offering Betts whatever it took.

I'm just not for trading even one top prospect for the right to sign someone to a high market value contract.

It was why I was against trading several prospects for Kimbrel and his near market value remaining contract. (True, the market leaped past his numbers right after the signing, and I have admitted that changed that dynamic of the trade, in hindsight.)

I think it's fair to see that as what he deserves to be paid, but not what you want your team to shell out.

I can see that view, but JH has gone through cycles of lower spending, before, and then turned on the monet faucet again and again.

I think he waits until he thinks we are close enough to winning a ring to give the green light.

The only exception to that was when he brought in DD to turn around a team that finished in last place 3 of 4 years, although one could argue the foundation was already set to give the green light to Ben, had he stayed.

The questions is: when will the spigot be turned on again?

I’m guessing this winter, but maybe next or the one after. JH rarely goes more than 3 years between sprees, and even this recent one should only be viewed as beginning after the Sale and Bogey extensions, and not the JD signing date.

It’s hard to determine what anyone “deserves.” We probably all have our own views.

We thought that last winter tho? It's the never ending wait until next year rope-a-dope.

"Deserves" as is looking as his age (24) and the current AAV of superstars. A 13 year contract gets him to age 37/38, not into his 40's. Seems ok? An AAV in the low 30's seems like FMV.

Devers Deserves!

Dom Smith is a guy I've liked for a long time; I am surprised by what has happened to him. I thought he would be a big time producer. I would like to see the Red Sox take a chance on him.

The Red Sox have pieces they could trade to the Mets including Vazquez & JD Martinez (the Mets are desperate for a DH). But if the Red Sox aren't prepared to sell and give up on the season, maybe trade Downs or Seabold or R.Hernandez for Smith? Hernandez would be ideal, but the Mets probably don't want him. A Jeter Downs for Smith trade seems fair, both players need to be fixed and maybe a new organization and start could help with that.

Downs, Vazquez, and JD Martinez for Smith and a prospect. While I would want a pretty good prospect, I realize that F.Alvarez is off the table.

I was not surprise we did not go super large this past winter, but we did pay Story and the one year deals added up to a lot. Plus JBJ.

He had two good seasons- both under 200 PAs. I’m not feeling any good vibes about him.

With 12 days left until the trade deadline and with our injuries and current lineup, do fans really believe the team will play better than 500 ball against Toronto, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Houston? Trades are unlikely to be made much before the deadline as teams trading are searching for the best offer. We will have to play with what we have and that will put Bloom and the front office in a weak position to argue for Buying. I thin we are looking to 2023 and beyond.

Go super large on who? Scherzer at 38? A different shortstop?

They may not talk about depth, but they all do stack up on it. The Yankees didn’t sign Matt Carpenter to start. He just turned out to be good enough to be one…

Super large on someone or Story and Suzuki, which I’m glad now we did not do

How about JD, Vaz and Eovaldi for Alvarez and Smith? The Mets are a World Series contender, and a good-hitting catcher, an All-Star DH, plus a frontline starter to fill the deGrom void might be worth a good-hitting catcher prospect this year... (to be fair, I saw three Double A Alvarez ABs in person: HR to center, double to RC, double to LC).

Zero chance the Mets trade their top prospect for a package of rentals…

Showalter loves veteran players. And the braves are a really impressive team! Cue the theme from the jaws movie!

The BTV guideline suggests a package of Eovaldi, Vazquez and Martinez gets you former second rounder RHP Calvin Ziegler. And nowhere near Baty or Vientos…

I can not say I am a Ziegler fan, but I could be talked into taking hamel.

But he knows what it takes to win in this league and I think he knows how to use a phone.

He probably has his wish list, but who the Mets give up for him is beyond his control.

And he probably likes Alvarez…

BTV accepted...

Duran, Nate, JD & Vaz

for

Mauricio & Ziegler

Think the Mets can take on 4 players to their 40 man? I have no idea. They might have some DFA fodder. (Possibly Dominic Smith?)

How many rings?

Still trying to figure out how the pitching geniuses at Tampa thought it was a good deal to trade Joe Ryan for two months of a 40-year old DH last year.

Anyway, the BTV site probably exploded.
