I don’t want Swanson either, and like I keep saying the Red Sox are not going to outbid any teams for any impact player.

Disagree.

The Sox will outbid other teams for an impact player and then you will deny said player is an impact player…

I still believe the Story signing last year f***ed this team for this year to retain Bogey. They should have just reworked Bogeys deal then. I get the whole insurance piece but that was a slap in the face for Bogey. And now it will cost the Sox more to retain him.

It's quite possible they already figured Bogey was gone after 2022.

It wasn't Story's deal, but their inability to extend Xander prior to the season. I think they still wanted to stay under the lux tax cap, but oops'd it. They should have just paid Xander and went over. He probably would have signed some sort of 6/165 at that point.

We all like to think we know what X would have signed for, but he didn’t hire Super Agent Scott Boras to come up with contract figures equal to the ones dreamed up by unwashed web forum hillbillies like us…

If that happens let me know, and I’ll tell you if he is impact, or not. Is Abreu a impact player? The Red Sox were $20M under the Astros.

Why?

Cashman is worse.

Bloom is better at what is needed for the Sox. My opinion might change, after this winter/upcoming season.

How is that for a conversation starter?

Do they know the Magic 8 Ball is just a toy?

1. They certainly have more insight than us on the subject.

2. It’s very possible they “knew” he was gone because they knew he would want a contract they never felt he’d be worth…

Agreed, and once they did not extend Bogey, they started figuring he was gone and planned/acted accordingly.

I believed #2 since they offered the one year add-on to his current contract.

I don't think they viewed that as "low ball," which shows how much they think he was worth back then. With inflation, maybe they've upped it a bit, but I doubt by much and I am extremely convinced they will not come close to the top offer he gets.

Cashman has helped the Yankees have an outstanding farm system and remain competitive all without killing the payroll. The sox might like that in the short term.

And part of that plan was to immediately shift focus into locking up Devers longterm, so the same Betts-Bogaerts fiasco wouldn't transpire for a third time.

Fool me thrice... oh, wait -- raise ticket prices!

If we pay more, they'll be able to keep Devers!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloom has built up a better farm, although it's close and started with a bottom 5 farm. He has worked with a tighter budget, but lost points with me for not staying under, this year.

I think Bloom was the GM the team needed and wanted. I think he's done a pretty good job in what I think were the higher priorities handed him.

Cashman has made many bad moves in the past 3 years. I haven't counted to see if it's more than Bloom.

The Red Sox need someone who can field a winning, competitive team EVERY single year, and ANY year like last year is totally unacceptable. DD accomplished that in his 4 years, which Bloom can’t match in his 4 years. Cashman over Bloom anytime.

Maybe Bloom should have traded Casas, Mayer, Bleis and Bello, so we wouldn't finish in last and therefore be "acceptable."

True, but a lot of Yankee fans think he should be gone because they've only made it to the Series once since 2003.

Bloom hasn't proved a thing yet. Comparing him with these other guys is premature at best.

As we keep saying, this is a big offseason for him.

So far he continues to impress with his patience!

How angry would Sox fans be if Bloom misses out on Bogaerts and any of the big time SS's and instead signs Andrus to something around 2 years 18 million? as a stopgap to Mayer? But then goes out and signs Judge/Senga? and extends Devers?

The math works to stay under the cap, and if they wanted to reset next year they could have the Devers extension start next year and have enough money left over for a #3 starter and Conforto?

I doubt this all happens, but the math is there. Conforo/Kike/Paxton money come off next year, and It looks unlikely that they pick up Matt Barnes option which is another 8 million. There may be no holes in 2024 with that team with the likes of Rafaella/Mayer/Yorke/Mata looking to be big-league contributors.

I think it is more likely we get Andrus than a top 3 remaining SS. We won't get Judge, but we might sign 3-5 players in the $12-22M/yr range on top of Andrus.

I probably won't be "angry," but We'll hear about how the majority of Sox Nation is irate with Bloom, over and over.

Even if Bloom does not impress me, this winter, the results will be what he is judged by after finally getting a big enough budget to cover most of the high needs.

CF - Kiki

3B - Devers

RF - Judge

DH - Conforto (he'd get time in LF or RF)

2B - Story

1B - Casas

LF - Verdugo

SS - Andrus

C - McGuire/Wong

That lineup would have the potential to do some serious damage. Depending on how healthy and good that Story/Casas/Verdugo middle back of the lineup stays it could be elite if they elongate it.

I seriously doubt we are even a finalist on Judge.

1. extend Devers; 2. sign Andrus and Senga; 3. instead of Judge and his albatross contract for the next 10 years, I'd substitute Eovaldi/Haniger/Taylor Rogers for the next three...

I would really hate to lose all those draft picks and international pool money and only have Contreras and Bassitt to show for it.
