Cobb gets $9M x 2 with SFG and a 3rd year option with a $2M buyout: essentially $20M/2 or $30M/3 (team choice).

Assuming we take the Paxton option- making that dal $35M/2, we could have gotten Cobb & Kluber for less money.

So… two injury prone pitchers for the price of one?

Renfroe was a good value this year for $3M, and driving in 96 RBI, which was a career high by far, but I wouldn’t count on him doing it again at a higher cost too.

Great value at 3M. Not sure he'll repeat his performance. Value at 7+ is questionable IMO.

The rotation now has 8 options plus mid season depth in Paxton, assuming at least one of Houck/Whitlock join Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta and Wacha. Seabold, Crawford and Winckowski are there early season depth. I’d prefer to bump both of Houck and Whitlock back into the pen, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

From the reliever market, maybe two from Archie Bradley, Mychal Givens, Oliver Drake or Wander Suero? And a 2b (no idea?) or a CF (even less of an idea?). I suppose a Duran in CF, Hernandez to 2b remains possible.

Maybe the trade market, which will take a while if nothing happens today? Free agency has some mildly interesting names, but nothing that makes the ol’ coccyx rattle…

Beat out by the Rays!

At least the Dodgers beat us out of signing the great Heaney, and the Cards beat us to the superb Matz.

Man, it's good to at least know we were trying hard for some great arms.

The great Heaney? Surperb Matz? How do you know how hard the Sox were going after these so called great arms? Do you what any of the offers were?

Wants some regression after having a healthy 2021 starting rotation.

What about at $5mill?

He hasn’t settled for anything yet…

Hopefully non-existent…

Assuming they both preferred Boston over the teams with the best records in the AL and NL (in warm-weather states)...

Well, their total cost was $28M, and I mentioned we'd assume we keep Paxton for $35M/3, so we could have paid more.

I'm not saying I am for either choice- just providing a comparison.

You’re great at sitting on the fence, and waiting to see what happens, before you make a choice worrying it won’t be the right one. Be brave.

Seriously?

You accuse him of blindly liking everything Bloom does. And then when he actually does overtly question something, then you accuse him of not doubting it enough?

Maybe he’s not the wishy-washy one…

Overtly question? Saying he’s for either one is overtly questioning something? Kind of a weak argument.

I've given up responding. It's like arguing with a washing machine.

First, he berates me for spewing so many suggestions and never getting any right, and then he says I need to be "brave" and get off the fence and give my opinions or predictions.

I often throw out suggestions or possible actions, or something BTV accepts. Sometime, I play around on BTV and make trades that I end up giving a thumbs down.

I rarely make predictions as Red says. Mostly, I give ideas I'd like to see happen, knowing damn well the chances are close to zero, yet Red acts like I'm saying it will happen.

I know I'm not always super clear on saying what I want to happen, what I think could or might happen or what I think will happen, but I don't think I'm very wishy-washy or a fence-sitter.

I probably give more opinions than anyone here. Opinions are not usually predictions. I give my predictions mostly in March.

There are a few areas I am not sure about, and I sometimes play the devil's advocate, which may seem like I'm on both sides of an issue, but I try to be clear when doing that.

I've told Red I won't respond to him anymore, but he keeps whispering to the wind.

You gave me an early Christmas present, so don’t take it back now. I know you think you are the pulse of Red Sox nation on here, and I watch, and listen to talk shows from Maine to Boston, and I read papers from Maine to Boston, so I know there is a big world out there with different opinions. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and not everyone is going to agree, but some don’t like it to have a different view on something. I listen to viewers from all walks of life, and form my own opinions, but differ greatly when I here over exaggerated views like Cora made less mistakes than any manager in baseball last year, Kike is the best CF the RedSox ever had, and Schwaber is so great he should be signed to a lifetime contract, which none of all the other all time great Red Sox players never got just to name a few. Like I said before I’m not into name calling, and like all the kind words I get, because it’s like another plan comes together.

If money is concern going foward, move Dalbec to 3B and play Casas at 1B. That is Tampa Bay move.

No. Tampa would keep Dalbec as a platoon. He wouldn't be moved to 3b. He can barely field 1b now. He'd be dreadful at 3b.

So by her own statement about people, was Eleanor Roosevelt being small-minded?

Can I still wear my “Nader 2024” tee shirt?

Yes, but you can't put it as your avatar. My concern is that we still have a few pro and anti FDR posters around here. Some of whom who could have voted for FDR like 4 times. SBF has been known to throw dimes back at cashiers if his change included that foul FDR.
