Not sure at 7M.

Not much, but maybe a little.

For what it's worth, BTV has him making $7.6M and worth $9.2M. (Net +$1.6M)

He also has one arb year left, which has some value.

Schwarber is a stretch this year, but he'll be DH going forward when JD leaves next offseason. He seemed to fit really well with the clubhouse. You can play him at 1b for 1/2 a year until Casas is ready. Maybe he has a full year at 1b because Casas isn't called up until 2023?

Maybe they bring Schwarber in for LF and decide to non-tender Renfroe?

I’d rather have Renfroe than Schwarber. Schwarber is an on base machine, but Renfroe is a better outfielder.

Sure Schwarber could step in for JD after next season, but is DH really all that tough to fill? JD would be better replaced with fellow free agent Trey Mancini of Baltimore doesn’t extend him…

I really like Schwarber, but I agree. We can do better.

Am I the only one thinking Seager getting $325M/10 is insane?

I'm fine with players making a ton of money, but this one seems way out of whack.

I am against the Sox taking on that kind of risk, as it could easily turn out bad and seriously effect the teams flexibility in future.

Not if the ARB is going to continue to increase. I like Renfroe, but I wouldn't pay him 9M.

There you go changing your tune on Schwaber again. You really straddle that fence.

Renfroe had a negative UZR. Those 12 errors aren't helping either. I think moving Verdugo to RF would improve the team defense.

Renfroe was a good value this year for $3M, and driving in 96 RBI, which was a career high by far, but I wouldn’t count on him doing it again at a higher cost too.

Which is better on defense only?

LF Schwarber

CF Kike

RF Verdugo

LF Verdugo

CF Kike

RF Renfroe

When we were about to start ST'ing, this year, I thought it was going to be:

LF: Renfro/Cordero

CF: Kike

RF: Verdugo

(If Kike played 2B, Cordero to CF was my thought/wonder)

Kiermaier is on the block. (BTV has him at -2.8 value.)

I'm not for moving Kike to 2B, but it would fill that slot.

BTV accepted this trade:

Downs (+11.8) for Fairbanks (+10.5) and Kiermaier (-2.8).

It also accepted Roario, Potts, Bazado and Ward for the same two players! LOL!

The Sox are not better on D with Schwaber playing anywhere.

Kiermaier would not come cheap, and the Sox don’t have that much to trade that Tampa would want, and Tampa is just looking to get Kluber on the roster.

The 12 errors is a big part of what made him negative, but he was also negative in range:

-3.0 ErrR

-0.2 RngR

+1.7 ARM

-2.1 UZR/150 (career in RF: -0.8)

Negative in range? Renfroe is better on D than Schwaber. If you could get something out of Durran you wouldn’t have to worry about either one.

These are added to your long list of things that won’t happen.

There is also the trade route, but seeing these mega contracts, one has to wonder what trade asks are going to be.

I erased the names from the list provided to reflect who I think we might make a play for- not a wish/ not a prediction:

Schwarber

Taylor

Stroman

Rodon

Kershaw

Greinke

Some are rather doubtful.

Greinke could not handle playing in Boston. He has high anxiety playing for small market teams or in laid back California. No way he is on their list.

I think you are right, but not for the reason you gave.

Beat out by the Rays!

At least the Dodgers beat us out of signing the great Heaney, and the Cards beat us to the superb Matz.

Man, it's good to at least know we were trying hard for some great arms.

Cesar Hernandez signs for just $4M with $1M in bonuses.

The Angels announced the signing of right-hander Michael Lorenzen to a one-year contract on Tuesday. It’s reportedly a $6.75MM pact.

So the only non-tender was Locastro? A first year arb player unlikely to make $1mill in arbitration?

My guess is Bloom signs someone he thinks is better off the scrap heap.

So far, there have been a few couple mildly intriguing non-tenders, all relievers. The Braves non-tendering Richard Rodriguez should catch Bloom's attention.

Wander Suero was pretty awful last year, but has actually been pretty good for the bulk of his career. Robert Gsellman had some promise, too, before getting hurt.

Either one is probably worth taking a chance on to see if they can rebound. Suero seems like the better bet...

Richard R. was at the top of my list of relief options worth pursuing last year. His dip in performance that left him off the Braves' postseason roster and got him cut either reflects a guy who slumped at the wrong time or someone with an injury (worse than cutting the thumb of his glove hand while chopping peppers). We all know bullpen arms have ups and downs in careers, but it's telling that the world champs already signed two other relievers just this week...

Steer clear of Rodriguez. He put up these three K rates in 18-20. 1.4, 8.7, 13.1. His K rate last year was under 6. He was getting by with smoke and mirrors before he went to Atlanta and imploded. There is something wrong for him to not be generating swings and misses. Let a s*** team fix that and deal for him at the deadline if they do

Cobb gets $9M x 2 with SFG and a 3rd year option with a $2M buyout: essentially $20M/2 or $30M/3 (team choice).

Assuming we take the Paxton option- making that dal $35M/2, we could have gotten Cobb & Kluber for less money.
