Wacha is close to Matz level, but is a slight step down. That has more to do with how I see Matz.

The one year deal is the biggest difference.

Hard to complain.

It's Bloom's wallet not his "speed."

I'm not sure what to think. Though some posters are positive Henry -- and thus, Bloom -- are bound to spend big when the right guy comes along "at the right time", that may be presumptive, at best. Boston's strategy the past three offseasons has paid off in the standings and on the farm. Why deter, Jeter?

What's odd right now in this last minute spending splurge on free agents (before lockout) isn't the absence of the Red Sox, but the Yankees, and even Dodgers.

We'll see what happens in the next day or two, but has any Yankee team ever needed an upgrade more than these pinstripers (at shortstop) -- at the same time the best crop of stars are available at that exact position... and NY has yet to swoop in and overpay immediately for the best guy -- with Steinbrenner money?

I'm assuming we follow the trend we've seen since Henry became owner.

He spends big, re-sets the tax- often staying under for 2-3 years, then spends big again. Along the way, we stay near the tax line, so we're not penny-pinchers as some suggest.

I expect the pattern to continue, but maybe the new CBA will change things.

IMO Wacha is a substantial step down from Matz. Watch is very damaged goods.

I really don’t like Matz. I’m not a Wacha Wocka Wocka fan either.

Dodgers are nearing a cliff.

Moon when are you going to understand that was the Old Henry, and he’s not like that anymore? He’s got a lot more endeavors going on, and he’s not going to spend on the Sox like he used to. You’ve come out with all these signings, trades, and lineups that have no chance of happing. It’s fun to do it, but then reality will set in.

Henry has had other endeavors for a while. It's not a brand new thing.

Could be.

If so, I'll still be eternally grateful to him for bringing me something I worried I'd never see.

The guy is super rich. He has enough to spend big again on the Sox and do other things. Whether he does it or not is an open question. I'm not sure he will, but you seem awful sure he won't. Then, you act like it's Bloom's fault he's not allowed to spend- like he just needs to convince Henry to open the checkbook.

While I have mentioned some "pie in the sky" suggestions, I usually say it's a dream on not likely reality.

I am encouraged by rumors we are a finalist for Baez. If that rumor is true, it means we have a few tens of millions to spend, this winter. If it ends up being untrue, I'll still believe the spending will be back in 2023 or 2024.

As it is, we'll still be a top 5-7 spending team in MLB i n 2021.

Matthew Boyd will be non tendered by the Tigers. He seems like Bloom’s speed.

Boyd will be out until June/July. Otherwise he’d be an interesting option…

The thing is, his "guesses" are almost always negative in nature.

And ignore that the Sox were still among the highest spenders in MLB in 2019, 2020 and 2021 despite adding no big contracts…

Show me where I’ve blamed Bloom for not spending any money. Over exaggerated again as usual. I’ve been saying for weeks now that after listening to Kennedy, and Bloom on their end of year press conference that it sounded like they wasn’t going out after high priced FA, and instead following last years bargain basement plans. This is just my opinion based on what those two guys said, and not something I just made up.

You're just guessing, like the rest of us.

Go back, and listen to the year end press conference by Kennedy, and Bloom. That’s where my opinion, or guessing is coming from.what are you basing your guesses on?

Maybe the Sale and Bogaerts contracts were extensions, but they were pretty big add-ons to the payroll. And Eovaldi's contract was thought to be big at the time, but now he looks like a bargain -- he'll only be making $2 mil more than ERod next season. Chances are Nate will be worth considerably more soon than the average full-count/walk the leadoff batter/can't throw a shutdown inning type of starter.

Apparently, Seager just got his $300+ million. Can anyone imagine Baez now settling for less than $200 mil? Can anyone imagine Bloom paying that to anyone, much less a guy who Ks nearly every three at bats?

Your guesses are more fantasy island. I hope you are the one that’s right, but both are at this point nothing but opinions, so negative, or reality call it what you want.

I'm done with you.

It's not a fantasy to think we could have signed ERod, Jon Gray and Iggy.

Or

Trade for Montas & Trivino and sign Iggy

If we can sign Baez and Wacha, we can do close to what I wanted.

It doesn't cost a King's ransom to build up the bullpen. That is where the focus should be . But I'm not seeing it so far.

It's not easy, and you can sign the best of the best available, and still miss badly.

There's no use having a discussion with you.

Bye

The point is NONE of this has happened, and until it does it’s pure fantasy.

Where does it say you said I made it up. I didn’t say that. I said I didn’t just make it up to show I was going on what Kennedy, and Bloom said, which I’ve been saying since the end of the season, but you just ignore what they said, and make things up as you go along. So far what I interpreted what Kennedy, and Bloom said are true, and all your made up things have not happened.
