Would the Sox have won 2013 without Peavy? (Montas was part of the package that brought him here)

I don't think so. They needed an arm badly. If for no other reason than to bump Doubront out of the rotation...

The question of whether they would have won without Peavy is academic. It was a necessary move at the time.

3.79 FIP, 1.36 WHIP, 16 QS

5.7 Innings per start.

He'd be the #3 or 4 on this team.

Actually at the time they acquired Peavy, Workman was in the rotation.

But having Peavy in the postseason pushed Doubront into the pen where he pitched quite well in limited action…

There is never a log jam unless a team is winning 108 games and winning the World Series. We're not there yet.

These things always work themselves out. Not sure the logjam you're talking about but I'm assuming...

JD, Schwarber, Dalbec, Kike, Verdugo, Renfroe and Duran.

JD will be gone in one year if he does not opt out.

Schwarber can DH, play LF and 1B

Dalbec can play 1B and 3B

Kike can play 2B, who knows how often Arroyo will get hurt, he can relieve Xander also.

Verdugo and Renfroe may need time off....scheduled day off as Cora calls it.

I wouldn't trade a top 25 mlb prospect just yet....they've been patient with Dalbec, they will be patient with Duran.

You have 7 players for 5 positions...Cora loves the flexibility. Someone will slump, someone will be hurt.

He was bad in the pen during the season, but in the postseason: 7 Inn, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 3 BB. He may have been a little lucky, but I'll take it.

Back to the present, if the Sox did acquire Montas (whom Oakland is likely to move due to the large amount of arbitration-eligible players this winter), they could keep Iglesias and maybe bring back JB Wendelken, reuniting all the survivors from a midseason trade made 9 years previous…

I agree. We need to hold our prospects and hope a few help in big or moderate ways.

I understand the worries about Duran and Dalbec's defense, but they may just need time to adjust.

I think Duran should play the short corner OF position, until he proves he's better in CF than our other options.

I'm totally unsure about Dalbec's D and wonder about moving Devers to 1B. He keeps having numerous fielding slumps, every year. I guess, if he loses focus at 1B, too, it won't be any prettier, but we need serious improvement with our IF defense.

Sale will now be out for at least 1 start due to COVID. There is no depth on the staff to handle this.

And I thought the 2004 Sox were the idiots...

The Pacific Northwest may not welcome the Boston Red Sox and their COVID outbreak.

The Seattle Mariners require fans to show proof of vaccination and wear face masks:

The Mariners are offering suprisingly steep discounts for tickets to next week's three-game series against the Red Sox.

Mariners would have to forfeit. Fine by me.

Hey guys, I've got an idea. How about we start a new thread and call it " Covid." We could all state our ideas and opinions on all things Covid. We could vent and rant and rave and then drift into politics in general. Sounds like great fun.

That wouldn't work because politics has nothing to do with eradicating a worldwide health crisis.

Yankee News (only because they're fighting for a playoff spot)

Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon and Zack Britton, Yankees

Cole (left hamstring tightness) played catch on Thursday and is now expected to throw a bullpen session either Friday or Saturday. Barring any setbacks, this would set the star right-hander up to start either Monday's make-up game against the Twins or Tuesday's series opener against the Orioles.

The Yanks placed Taillon on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a tendon injury in his right ankle. The club is hopeful that Taillon can return this season. More >

Britton, meanwhile, underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in addition to a bone chip removal and could now miss most or all of the 2022 season. More >

RIP to an all time enjoyable thread.

Why show a list of honest injuries to a rival team that has apparently at least taken the responsibility to stop the spread of a highly contagious virus; are you trying to persuade Red Sick fans to switch allegiances? Because it may ultimately work...

If I caught Covid from Chaim Bloom , and Aaron Boone cured me , it still would not persuade me to be a Yankee fan.

See, that's the spirit needed throughout Red Sox Nation right now. May it be reflected in the Boston clubhouse to bring the team together -- no wait, to keep them six feet apart -- stop confusing them, they're just young men!

Aaron Boone wouldn’t cure you. He’d leave the virus in too long until it gave up the lead…

I just posted the injury update list for the Yankees from the MLB site. I've done this before.

What the f*** is your problem, Francis?

AB and Jackie are stinking. Jackie is making 13 mill and hitting .168.

I've seen some dumb posters on message boards, but you are the champ. Congrats.

Do you even have a baseball team, STORK? Or do you just go around trolling fan sites to get yer jollies?

The road trip could knock us for a loop, but we end the season with very beatable opponents. TOR has some easy games, too, but some tough ones as well.

The road trip scares me, particularly the trip out west to face Seattle, where we never seem to do well. We need to keep pace with the other teams during this stretch, then we should be in very good shape.

Those one run losses are killers.
