Maybe? He's made it this far.

So has Springs.

Looks like two potential DFAs with Sawamura potentially joining shortly.

Candidates include Springs, Wilson and who? Brewer? Is Brice a legitimate option?

Me, too. Fans maybe underestimate how much the familiarity factor can positively affect a new player's performance. The Cora connection is also why I wouldn't be surprised to see Correa and hopefully McCullers in a Sox uniform a year from now...

As for Marwin, I hope fans will welcome him to Boston -- and remember he looked pretty good slugging homers off Price and Barnes in the '18 ALCS, the year after smashcans.

I've mentioned the Cora factor often, and I think it's a very real thing. I have always felt that the way a manager manages the players is far more important than any in game decisions. The players like, respect, and connect with Cora. He has a way of getting his players to buy into what he's selling. I think that Cora will not only help Marwin, but he'll also help JD and Devers, in particular, among other players.

For all we know, this Red Sox team may be like one of those Rays teams, seemingly short on recognizable names and talent, but with a habit of outscoring the opposition.

I don't know whether a very smart poster already posted this, but The Athletic has ranked the Red Sox offense 3rd in the AL behind the Blue Jays and the White Sox. Even with the trade of Beni, I believe our offense will score some runs.

I am giving the lying sack of s*** a chance, but I’d rather have an honest person at the helm.

You don't know that Bloom lied. You don't know what happened behind the scenes.

If by “chance” you mean you need to see a winning team in 2021, then you’ll be disappointed. 2021 looks like it’s gonna be another race to the bottom for the sox

As I've said once before, 87 wins. Book it.

I'll be happy if they go 19-143, as long as all 19 wins come against the Yankees...

I would like to ask him what efforts he made to sign Mookie after his public unequivocal pronouncement about the priority to make Mookie a lifelong Red Sox until the date that he traded Mookie. I have not seen nor heard any statements by him in that regard, and until I do, I will continue to think that he lied to our faces.

700hitter heard what he said to season ticket holders like himself, and then he did not do what he said he would do. It's splitting hairs to claim that wasn't a lie.

One potential problem was, I am not sure Mookie shared this priority...

Marcus Walden probably needs some mention, too..

It’s nice to see the list getting much shorter. Bloom has done a good job on the 28-37th slots.

Something can be a very high priority and still not happen. This is baseball. Nothing is a given.

Possibly, but I have heard nothing about any developments in this regard from the time Bloom made the statement until the date of the trade.

No idea when you had the season ticket holder call was, but there were plenty of rumblings about Betts’ desire to test free agency going back into the 2019 season.

Now, there was also buzz that he had a price. Reportedly an outrageous one...

The call was shortly after Bloom was hired. It was his introduction to the season ticket holders. And there had been statements that Betts would test Free Agency during the 2019 season. There was nothing reported that he would not consider coming back to the Red Sox. That also didn’t happen after the conference call and before the trade. That would have been incredibly stupid for Mookie to do — eliminate one of the biggest checkbooks in the sport. You never eliminate competition that can drive up your value, and Mookie is very smart. Unless Bloom says otherwise, I can safely rule out that Mookie told Bloom that he wouldn’t come back. I am sticking with Bloom being a lying sack of s***.

I never said Mookie didn’t want to come back to Boston. But he reportedly did want to test the market, which is not the same thing.

And as he wanted to test the market, that strongly weakened Boston’s position.

Of course, it did not necessitate a trade. Unless no other way was found to get under the tax limit. Not like Price or Eovaldi were in demand any more...

There were no new developments regarding Mookie and the Red Sox that are known have occurred after Bloom declared that keeping Mookie would be a priority. So, I don’t get understand your point.

That are known to YOU.

Blows my mind how often sports fans take rock solid positions on something (in this case Bloom is now a confirmed lying sack of s*** apparently) while having less than a fraction of the information at hand to make such certain statements.

Idiotic.

Mookie wanted to test the market. Bloom said he wanted to keep Mookie. Not necessarily an easy task.

I think trading Mookie came about when Bloom realized he had to cut payroll and no one wanted Price or Eovaldi...

Nothing to do with the prospect of losing Mookie to free agency and getting nothing for him?

I think Bloom would have known virtually from the moment he was hired that trading Price and/or Eovaldi wasn't going to be the answer to the payroll issues.

By the same token, baseball-wise it might not have been smart for Bloom to fill in season ticket holders on exactly what was going on with Mookie. And maybe at that point he didn't know himself.

I would agree normally. And I’d have understood him saying “we don’t know yet.”

But RSN does have a lot of fans who think Henry can and should just spend more no matter what. One of the most generous owners in MLB and some think he shouldn’t have a limit.

I mean, even yesterday Elktonnick kept talking about how Henry was dedicated to some super power Euro football league. So? It’s his money. And the Sox still have a large payroll and are not in danger of becoming the Pirates or Rays just yet..,

It just reveals how rough last season's team was in retrospect.

The way you avoid that is to sign him to a very large contract. They didn't want to. I don't blame Bloom for Mookie no longer being here. That was an ownership decision.

What's the point in ever being fully transparent?

To me, they should have spent no matter what in regards to keeping Mookie. That means resetting in 2022/23, huge lux tax payments prior to resetting, and possibly losing Xander and Devers. Though moving those two could bring back the prospects to restock the farm.
