You act like he had the resources to go out and get a stud starter- let alone 2.

Who said “stud” or 2 studs? He just needed to get a couple of major league competent starters to take the ball every 5 days— even a couple of Jason Vargas types would have been a major improvement. I think he had the resources to get that done.

The offer he made Betts wasn't that far from what he got.

IMO, this team is far from unwatchable, but tune out, if you wish.

It all just seems like sour grapes, to me. You refused to believe a cliff was coming and unavoidable.

Pout, if you must.

i will always watch, but they did lose 70% of their audience according to the ratings during a pandemic when most people are stuck at home. I would put that in the category of unwatchable.

Seriously?

Surely, you jest. Jason Vargas? Even a hindsight move like that would hardly have been a blip on our win total.

1. He had to cut the budget by $50 mill.

2. He did sign Martin Perez.

3. The only other actual money spent was $3mill on Jose Peraza. Even Jason Vargas types charge more than that.

The goal was to get payroll under $190 mill (or whatever the limit was). Two more MLB starters would cost a minimum of $12 mill. Are you saying for the sake of a lesser grade of mediocrity, the Sox should have jettisoned more payroll?

I suppose they could have non-tendered Bradley and signed Gio Gonzalez and Homer Bailey. Would that have made 2020 watchable?

Also not sure who plays CF...

Again -- unless your bosses told you to... which I suspect, but have no proof of.

Well, that's the problem, no? Bloom apologists place responsibility on Henry; Henry apologists put that on Bloom; fantasy sports enthusiasts blame the market ...

By the way, I hear the Stones are touring through your city. Now, Mick and Keith won't be there--you know, we don't trust their ability to continue much longer, and they're really way way more than our company can afford--but don't worry, we've got some great up and coming musicians (well, maybe not 'great', but 'good' or certainly at least 'average'). Tix going for $150-$2500. See you there.

Sorry, I can't stomach watching old, fat, bald rockers pretending; who wants to pay to look in the mirror?

Everybody blames somebody. Wasn't that a big hit for Dean Martin?

I, for one, don't blame Henry or Bloom. I just said it makes more sense to blame Henry (and Dave) than Bloom.

How can I blame Henry for bringing us 4 rings and then wanting to reset and walk things back a bit before the next splurge?

Okay, I agree. It is acceptable to start the season with 2 starting pitchers. It happens all the time.

But I also maintain that Bloom is a lying sack of s***. He unequivocally told the season ticket holders that it was his top priority to make Mookie a Red Sox for life and within weeks of the ticket renewal date was putting him on the trading block. I have never seen a GM do something like that.

It actually does, in terms of 2 decent SP'ers and rest scrubs, especially on teams with limited spending budgets.

The message he gave to the press about it was much vaguer than that.

I can't see the "applauded" part.

He starting changing his story after the season ticket renewal date.

i was on the call with the season ticket holders. He got a direct question and answered it very unequivocally.

I'm with you! And I'm sure his thinking (as a good soldier) was: "This is all for the good of the team. How are we ever going to hire all those prospects once we get rid of Mookie unless we get season ticket holders to pay up BEFORE we do that?"

Possible that things changed when Betts refused to sign anything and San Diego and the Dodgers came with offers?

It always seemed like extending Betts was on everyone’s radar, except Betts’.

So Bllom knows Sale is injured, Betts is under control for one more year, and the two best farm systems in baseball are asking about him?

imo, he’s a lying sack of s***. I would trade him for Ben in a heartbeat.

@ChrisCotillo

Marwin Gonzalez is expected to be in Fort Myers for his physical by the middle of the week, depending on weather-related travel delays. Once he passes that, his 1-year, $3M deal with the Red Sox will be official.

Springs, you're on the clock.

If by “chance” you mean you need to see a winning team in 2021, then you’ll be disappointed. 2021 looks like it’s gonna be another race to the bottom for the sox

I bet their record will be closer to 2019 than 2015.
